Spooky and Fun Events for Halloween in the Bay Area

As Halloween approaches, the Bay Area is gearing up for a variety of spooky and fun events that promise excitement for all ages.

In San Francisco, one of the standout events is the Fright NightLife at the California Academy of Sciences on October 30 at 6 p.m. This event invites attendees to showcase their most creative Halloween costumes while enjoying spine-chilling drag performances by Oaklash. Guests can also explore a mystic market by OK Marketplace and indulge in candy and creepy creatures.

For those seeking a mix of bar hopping and ghost hunting, the ‘Walk with Spirits: A Haunted Pub Crawl’ runs through October 31. Beginning in historic Jackson Square, participants will venture into the infamous ‘Devil’s Acre,’ concluding their adventure in the legendary Chinatown area.

On the same day, the San Francisco Ferry Building offers a family-friendly ‘Trick-or-Treat’ event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This delightful gathering allows children and families to engage in the spirit of Halloween with a safe trick-or-treating experience.

The festivities continue with ‘Crawloween: Dia de los Muertos’ at Rick & Roxy’s on November 1 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. This grand finale includes a lively pub crawl celebrating Dia de Los Muertos in The Marina and Polk Gulch.

East Bay offers its fair share of Halloween magic as well. The ‘Halloween Jam at Fairyland’ on October 31 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Children’s Fairyland in Oakland promises fun-filled activities, including arts and crafts, bouncy houses, and games designed specifically for children.

Berkeley will also celebrate with its ‘Free Trick or Treat Night’ on October 30 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Families can enjoy face painting, lawn games, and polaroid crafts as part of a festive atmosphere.

Oakland’s community spirit shines through with the ‘Silent Disco on the Plaza’ on October 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This free event features a two-channel silent disco where participants can unwind, connect, and dance the Halloween season away.

In the South Bay, the ‘Tequila Walk 2025’ at Jack’s in San Jose on November 1 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. beckons tequila enthusiasts. Attendees can enjoy unlimited tastings from more than 20 different tequila and mezcal brands at this festive gathering.

In the Peninsula, the Belmont Boo Bash on October 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. provides a free, family-friendly event, including a ‘Trunk or Treat’ candy collection alongside haunted buildings, live music, and food trucks.

Also, on October 28 at 3 p.m., the Chan Zuckerberg Community Space in Redwood City hosts a ‘Boo Bash’ that features spooky activities such as shadow puppetry, cookie decorating, and ‘monster mugshots,’ although space is limited.

Finally, on October 31 at 4 p.m., families can enjoy a Trunk or Treat on 25th Avenue in San Mateo, where decorated car trunks and shopfronts create a festive trick-or-treating experience.

With such a diverse range of activities lined up, the Bay Area is set to celebrate Halloween in style.
