Iran’s President Pezeshkian Advocates for Dialogue with U.S. Amid Rising Tensions

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed optimism about resolving the ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington through dialogue, although he acknowledged significant trust issues stemming from recent military actions by the U.S. and Israel against Iran.

In an interview with right-wing podcaster Tucker Carlson, Pezeshkian stated, “I am of the belief that we could very much easily resolve our differences and conflicts with the United States through dialogue and talks.”

This comment comes in the aftermath of a series of unprecedented attacks by Israel on June 13, which resulted in the deaths of several key Iranian military figures and nuclear scientists.

These strikes occurred just days before planned negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program, effectively derailing critical discussions aimed at forging a diplomatic understanding.

In addition to Israel’s actions, the U.S. also targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—on June 21, further escalating tensions in the region.

Reports from Iranian state media indicate that the conflict has led to a significant civilian toll, with the death count reaching at least 1,060 amid the ongoing hostilities.

Pezeshkian specifically attributed the breakdown of talks with the U.S. to Israeli aggression, questioning how trust could be rebuilt with the U.S. given the recent military incursions.

He posed a critical question during the interview: “How are we going to trust the United States again?”

Pezeshkian highlighted the uncertainty surrounding any future negotiations, wondering, “How can we know for sure that in the middle of the talks, the Israeli regime will not be given permission again to attack us?”

Furthermore, the Iranian president claimed that Israel had attempted to assassinate him during the June assaults, declaring, “They did try, yes. They acted accordingly, but they failed.”

He clarified that while the U.S. was not behind the assassination attempt, it was indeed orchestrated by Israel, recounting an incident where a bomb targeted the location of a meeting he was attending.

These attacks followed statements from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who did not dismiss the idea of assassinating Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Amid these tensions, a ceasefire has been observed since June 24, yet Pezeshkian criticized Netanyahu for pursuing a personal agenda that perpetuates conflict in the Middle East.

He called on President Trump to avoid being manipulated into a war with Iran by the Israeli leader, asserting that the future of the region hinges on the path chosen by the U.S. President.

Pezeshkian stated, “The United States’ president, Mr. Trump, is capable enough to guide the region towards peace and a brighter future and put Israel in its place. Or get into a pit, an endless pit, or a swamp.”

In related developments, President Trump is set to discuss Iran’s nuclear ambitions during Netanyahu’s visit to Washington, praising recent U.S. airstrikes as successful in weakening Iran’s nuclear program long-term.
