Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest Returns with a Sneak Peek at Santa Skate

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) has officially announced the highly anticipated return of the Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest for the 2025 – 2026 season, kicking off on Friday, November 29, 2025.

To bring an early taste of holiday magic to the community, DRWC will host a festive Santa Skate event on Friday, July 25 from 5 pm to 7 pm in celebration of Christmas in July. A rain date has been scheduled for Saturday, July 26, from 2 pm to 4 pm in case of inclement weather.

During the Santa Skate at Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, attendees can meet and skate with a summertime Santa, immersing themselves in the preview of Winterfest’s excitement. The Lodge will feature holiday movie classics, festive music, and an array of drink specials, such as Holly Jolly Red Slushies, Frozen “Hot Chocolate,” and Cozy Coquito (while supplies last). Guests are encouraged to dress in their holiday best and take memorable photos with the Zamboni.

Furthermore, the first 100 roller skating purchasers will receive a complimentary ice-skating ticket for the upcoming Winterfest season, a special offer exclusive to on-site sales.

Joseph A. Forkin, President & CEO of the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming season, stating, “For more than 30 years, Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest has been a beloved destination where families and visitors can create seasonal traditions along the Waterfront. Thanks to our longtime partner, Independence Blue Cross, we’re proud to continue making this space accessible, festive, and welcoming all year long. We hope everyone enjoys a taste of winter during our Santa Skate celebration.”

Independence Blue Cross RiverRink, managed by DRWC and located at 101 South Columbus Boulevard in Philadelphia, is the city’s urban waterfront destination for skating and cherished memories.

Currently, the venue is hosting Summerfest through September 1, offering a lively boardwalk experience complete with roller skating. The upcoming Winterfest will transform the space into a winter wonderland featuring an NHL-sized outdoor ice-skating rink and rustic décor.

Patrons can enjoy outdoor fire pits and warming cabins, providing a cozy escape during the winter months to gather with friends and family. This season, Winterfest will also debut heated outdoor igloos where visitors can relax and enjoy food and drinks from various pay-as-you-go options available at The Lodge and concession stands surrounding the rink.

Amusements such as a Ferris wheel and an indoor arcade will ensure fun for all ages. Weekly programming, along with various events and entertainment, will be available on-site. Notable traditions include the Holiday Tree Lighting powered by PECO on December 5, 2025, and New Year’s Eve Fireworks on December 31, 2025.

Advance ticket sales for skating are expected to launch in October 2025.

The Santa Skate event at the Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, located at 101 South Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19106, promises holiday excitement on July 25 from 5 to 7 pm.

In case of rain, the alternative date is set for Saturday, July 26, with announcements to be made through social media and the DRWC website. Skating admission is priced at $5, with skate rentals available for $12; tickets can be purchased on-site or in advance through RiverRink.com.

Beyond the skating activity, guests can partake in festive fun with mini golf, games, and rides, which are available on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Participants can also savor various food offerings from concession stands and indulge in beverages from a full-service bar featuring local beers, wine, and cocktails while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere, which includes attractions like mini golf, a Ferris wheel, carousel, Gravity Storm Moon Bounce, carnival games, and a pay-as-you-go arcade.

Independence Blue Cross members can enjoy free skate admission for themselves and up to three guests by showing their IBX card, although skate rental is not included. Military and first responders are also eligible for complimentary skate admission for themselves and up to three guests with valid ID (in person only; skate rental not included).

Guests are encouraged to check the DRWC website for updated programming details, daily and holiday hours, as well as ticketing and event information.
