Alexandria Man Arrested for Series of Burglaries in Arlandria Neighborhood

An Alexandria man has been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries that occurred in the city’s Arlandria neighborhood.

The 23-year-old suspect was taken into custody on May 28 for burglary-related charges and was subsequently released on June 5 on an unsecured bond.

However, he was rearrested on June 12 for violating the conditions of his pretrial bail and released once again by a court order on June 20, according to information provided by the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office.

The first reported incident took place during the early hours of May 13. At approximately 1:30 a.m., a resident of the 3800 block of Russell Road alerted police after encountering an unknown man who had unlawfully entered her apartment through an open kitchen window.

The woman reported waking up to find a man in a black baseball cap and dark clothing rifling through her bedside table.

Startled, she screamed, causing the suspect to flee through the front door.

Upon further investigation, the victim discovered that a fanny pack containing $300 in cash, a passport, an iPhone, a bank card, a Metro card, a laundry card, and two USB drives had been stolen from her apartment, as detailed in a recently released search warrant affidavit.

Additionally, the victim noted that unauthorized charges totaling over $200 had been made to her bank card at a nearby 7-Eleven store.

Just two hours later, at around 3:30 a.m., another woman living in the same area reported a similar encounter.

She awoke to find a man looking beneath her bed after he had crawled in through an open bathroom window.

The woman also screamed upon seeing him and chased him out of her apartment, even striking him in the back and attempting to slam the door on him as he fled.

According to police reports, her actions were vigorous enough to suggest that the suspect may have sustained bruising or broken bones.

Surveillance footage obtained by the police around 5 a.m. shows the suspect arriving at the 7-Eleven at 3412 Mount Vernon Avenue.

In the footage, he appears to be holding his arm, indicating a possible injury sustained during the confrontation with the second victim.

On May 24, a third victim discovered a break-in at his apartment in the 3800 block of Executive Avenue at around 8 a.m.

He reported that an electric scooter, $100 in cash, seven pairs of tennis shoes, and various documents had been taken from his home.

Further surveillance revealed that a young Hispanic male, matching the suspect’s description, was wearing a black baseball cap, a black ski mask, and a gray winter jacket on the day of the burglary, and was seen carrying a green lighter attached to his belt, paired with blue Crocs.

Later that day, at about 11:15 p.m., police arrested the suspect just one street away in the 3800 block of Russell Road.

He was apprehended while dressed in a black baseball cap, gray winter jacket, and blue Crocs—clothing consistent with descriptions from earlier incidents.

The suspect confessed to police that he was the individual seen in the security footage using a stolen debit card at the 7-Eleven store on May 13, attributing an arm injury to a biking mishap.

He also admitted to breaking into the Russell Road apartment, stealing the scooter and cash, and subsequently selling the scooter for $150.

Currently, he faces one count of entering a house with the intent to commit burglary and is scheduled to appear in court on July 24.
