SAN DIEGO, CA — Fitz and The Tantrums are ready to embark on an exciting summer tour, celebrating the release of their latest album, ‘Man On The Moon.’ The album will hit the shelves on Friday, coinciding with the start of their 31-city headline tour, which begins in San Diego this Thursday.
This marks the band’s sixth studio album, showcasing a collection of 14 tracks that blend soulful pop-infused sounds crafted by the band’s talented lineup: lead singer Michael ‘Fitz’ Fitzpatrick, co-lead vocalist Noelle Scaggs, bassist Joseph Karnes, multi-instrumentalist James King, and keyboardist Jeremy Ruzumna.
In an interview with Patch, Scaggs emphasized the eclectic nature of their music, stating, ‘Anything that we do is going to be a good time.’ She highlighted the mixture of introspection, party vibes, and songs addressing social issues throughout their discography.
Scaggs described the creative process behind ‘Man On The Moon’ as a bold venture, stating that the band ‘dared to be different.’ The album both preserves their signature sound and ventures into ‘new and bold directions,’ reflecting their desire to push creative boundaries.
‘We really went in on the theme of ‘Man On The Moon’ and really explored new technologies with even just the visual aspects of the project,’ she explained. This demonstrates the band’s commitment to not just musical expansion but also innovative visual storytelling.
The title track, ‘Man On The Moon,’ served as a pivotal point in the album’s creation and is noted by Scaggs for its nostalgic Motown flavor that aligns with the band’s roots. ‘It’s really fun to sing live as well,’ she expressed.
Additionally, the track ‘OK OK OK’ was described as a ‘bop’ by Scaggs, showcasing the fun and upbeat energy typical of their music.
One of the standout tracks, ‘Young Days,’ holds special significance for Scaggs, as she wrote and co-produced it. ‘That one’s a really special record for me in that it’s been written across the globe over time, and it was just something that I finally felt needed to be heard by this band,’ she revealed. Scaggs currently resides in Nashville, while her bandmates are based in Los Angeles.
Since their formation in 2008, Fitz and The Tantrums have released numerous hits like ‘HandClap,’ ‘Out of My League,’ ‘The Walker,’ and ‘Moneygrabber.’ The band is known for their high-energy performances, having participated in major music festivals such as Bonnaroo, Coachella, and Lollapalooza, as well as making appearances on popular TV shows including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Good Morning America.
The upcoming summer tour will feature a blend of their classic hits alongside new tracks from their latest album. Scaggs reported that the band tested some of these new songs during a brief spring tour, and there is excitement about expanding the setlist for the summer.
‘We could see people singing along to the record already,’ she shared, indicating a positive reception of their new material. ‘I’m looking forward to seeing us be able to do that more with more of the songs that we can present now.’
The tour kicks off at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay in San Diego and will conclude in Austin, Texas, on August 31. Supporting acts include Aloe Blacc and Neal Francis on select dates, along with Ax and the Hatchetman, SNACKTIME, and Gable Price and Friends.
Scaggs highlighted the unique energy of their live performances: ‘The sense of the energy that we project and the movement and what we require from our fans in being part of our show — I think that’s really unique to our live show.’ She invited fans to join in the fun, stating, ‘Come and have a really good time with us because we really like to spread joy to people, and we hope that they give us that joy back.’
