Choosing the right college is a significant decision for any student, requiring extensive research and careful consideration of various options.

CU Denver stands out among many institutions, offering a vibrant community and a variety of top-ranked degree programs that appeal to a diverse student population.

Current students and recent graduates share their experiences, highlighting what led them to choose CU Denver for their academic journey.

Kevin Harris, who graduated with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering in 2009, exemplifies the university’s impact on career development.

After a decade in the engineering field, he returned to CU Denver to pursue a second degree, a bachelor of science in civil engineering, which he will receive this fall.

Harris emphasized how employers recognize the preparedness of students from CU Denver, stating, “People out in industry understand that an engineering degree from CU Denver means that students are ready to hit the ground running at their new job.”

Kim-Phung (Kimmy) Van is another success story, set to graduate with a bachelor of science in psychology in spring 2026.

As a high school senior, she secured a place in the BA/BS-MD degree program, which allows students to complete their undergraduate studies downtown before continuing their education at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Van expressed her excitement for the program, saying, “As long as you maintain your grades and get the required MCAT score and do all your hours, you get a guaranteed interview [at] the medical school.”

Mitchell Mauro, president of the Student Government Association, is pursuing a bachelor of arts in public administration, set to graduate in 2026.

His passion for CU Denver stems from its location and the strong connection he feels to Colorado.

“I didn’t want to leave the state I love, Colorado,” he noted. “And I’ve loved [CU Denver] ever since.”

Maria Jose Londoño Cano also values her connection to her home and community, as she studies to receive her bachelor of science in psychology in 2026.

She chose CU Denver to remain close to her family, emphasizing, “I knew I didn’t want to go out of state,” along with her appreciation for the campus’s diversity.

As an immigrant, representation is crucial to her experience, and she finds the diverse community at CU Denver fulfilling.

Vasuman Senapathy, earning a master of science in information systems in spring 2025, was attracted to CU Denver for its innovative curriculum.

He noted the program’s balance of technical skills and managerial development, stating, “I saw this curriculum … and I was really intrigued by it because this program offers you technical skills, techno-managerial development, and leadership capabilities.”

He also appreciates the pleasant weather and the stunning natural landscape surrounding the campus.

Finally, Alyssa Padilla, who graduated with a master of arts in teaching and a secondary math license in spring 2025, found her passion matched perfectly at CU Denver.

“I want to teach high school math … and it’s just been an amazing program,” she remarked, highlighting the collaborative nature of her studies as particularly enjoyable.

In summary, the experiences shared by these students illustrate why CU Denver is a compelling choice for individuals seeking to further their education in a supportive and dynamic environment.
