Carlos Daniel Terán, a 19-year-old from Venezuela, vividly recalls the chilling words of a prison warden upon his arrival at El Salvador’s notorious mega-prison, CECOT.
“He told us we were never going to leave this place,” Terán shared.
This encounter in March marked Terán’s transfer from an immigration detention center in Texas to the Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT), a maximum-security facility designed for accused gang members in El Salvador.
The prison’s grim reputation is underscored by the remarks of El Salvador’s justice minister, who stated that individuals would only exit CECOT
