Peloton Launches Nationwide Marketplace for Buying and Selling Used Equipment

Peloton has officially removed the beta label from its new online platform, the Peloton Repowered marketplace, and expanded its availability across the United States. This initiative provides an avenue for customers looking to buy and sell used Peloton equipment, enhancing the accessibility of premium products for cost-conscious consumers.

Originally introduced in beta mode in early June, Peloton Repowered is designed to connect buyers and sellers within local communities, facilitating a more sustainable approach to owning Peloton equipment. The marketplace is managed by Peloton in partnership with Archive Resale, offering quality-checked products that align with the company’s commitment to promoting a circular economy and reducing the environmental impact of their products.

The marketplace first launched in three cities: Washington, D.C., New York City, and Boston. However, as of today, it is open to all U.S. residents who can now list their equipment for sale. The buying component of the marketplace will launch later in August, allowing customers to purchase available listings once the inventory has been populated.

As it stands, the current listing process requires most buyers to pick up their purchases personally. However, Peloton has plans to introduce a delivery service in the future, which, for an additional fee, would enable buyers to receive their equipment directly at home.

During the approximately two-month beta period, Peloton reports that over 400 equipment listings have been created across the initial cities. Yet, there is no available data indicating how many of these listings have successfully sold.

For sellers participating in Peloton Repowered, the financial benefits are notable. Sellers will receive 70% of the proceeds from successful sales, while Peloton and Archive Resale will split the remaining 30%. In addition to earning money from sales, sellers are also rewarded with discounts ranging from $200 to $600 off new Peloton equipment.

The marketplace offers suggested pricing guidance based on market trends and the condition of the listed equipment, but sellers maintain the freedom to set their own prices if they disagree with the recommendations provided.

On the buyer’s side, those purchasing used equipment will benefit from a $50 discount on the activation fee, in addition to a buyer protection policy that secures all transactions made through the platform. This policy is designed to ensure a secure and worry-free purchasing experience. Moreover, the platform now includes a history report that extends to Treads and Rows equipment, providing important insights for prospective buyers.

Nick Caldwell, Peloton’s Chief Product Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, noting the importance of creating a trustworthy marketplace. He commented, “We aim to create a trusted marketplace for our Members to buy and sell pre-owned Peloton equipment, ensuring quality-checked products. This initiative provides a valuable service to our community, offering an accessible entry point for new Members, a convenient way for existing Members to upgrade or sell their equipment, and an opportunity for our equipment to be given a second life.”

As of now, Peloton has not specified any plans to launch the Repowered marketplace in countries outside the United States. Current users interested in exploring or utilizing the features of Peloton Repowered can check out the marketplace directly on Peloton’s website.

This new marketplace marks a significant development for Peloton as it continues to innovate and adapt to the evolving needs of its community, while also committing to sustainability in the fitness industry.
