In a significant move aimed at improving the health and fitness of Americans, President Donald Trump has issued a new executive order that revokes the previous Executive Order 13824, which established the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, creating a renewed commitment to youth fitness and nutrition in the United States.
The new executive order was announced on July 31, 2025, and is part of a broader initiative to address alarming rates of obesity, chronic disease, and physical inactivity, particularly among children.
As the country prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding in 2026, President Trump highlighted the urgent need to combat the declining health of the American population, which he described as a significant threat to both the economy and national security.
Citing historical precedents set by former Presidents like Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy, the President emphasized the importance of physical fitness in maintaining a robust nation.
“Rates of obesity, chronic disease, inactivity, and poor nutrition are at crisis levels, particularly among our children. These trends weaken our economy, military readiness, academic performance, and national morale,” the President stated.
In conjunction with the revocation of the previous order, the new directive also amends Executive Order 13265, originally issued on June 6, 2002.
