The Boston Police Department has issued a call for public assistance in identifying a suspect believed to be involved in two recent burglaries at an apartment building on Washington Street in Roxbury.
The most recent attempted break-in occurred on the morning of July 27, where the suspect was reportedly seen trying to gain access to the building’s basement with what police suspect to be burglary tools contained in a bag.
According to reports, the suspect may have attempted to break into the same building just a few days earlier, on July 23, further raising concerns among residents in the area.
Witnesses have described the suspect as a Black male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a slim build, and believed to be in his mid-30s.
He was last seen wearing a completely black outfit, which included a hooded sweatshirt and a hat, making him a distinct figure against the backdrop of the neighborhood.
Several neighbors have expressed their unease after witnessing the suspect’s suspicious activity firsthand. One resident shared her experience, noting that at first, the man’s actions seemed inconspicuous, as he casually approached different doors to see if they were unlocked.
However, as he moved from door to door, her suspicions began to grow, particularly when she noticed his repeated attempts to enter various apartments.
In addition to his behavior, the presence of a duffel bag and a bicycle during his visits piqued the interest of residents, leading to speculation that he may have been attempting to gain entry into empty apartments within the building.
Police have indicated that this individual did not succeed in breaking into any apartments during these attempts, but the community remains on high alert due to the presence of empty units in the complex.
Authorities believe that the man has been frequenting the area, and there are concerns that he may continue to target similar buildings if he remains unidentified.
In light of these events, the police are urging anyone who may have information regarding the suspect’s identity, whereabouts, or any additional sightings to come forward.
Community members are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity they may encounter.
