New Dining Options Unveiled in Northern New Jersey: July 2025 Openings

As the cool weather of July 2025 sets in, dining enthusiasts in northern New Jersey are in for a treat with a wave of new restaurant openings across the region.

This month, a mix of dining experiences have popped up, from Mexican cuisine to brunch hotspots.

In Morristown, the highly anticipated Morris Proper made its debut on July 9, positioned at 100 Morris St. This inviting space, located on the ground floor of M Station West, is ideally situated between the Morristown Green and the train station. The restaurant aims to cultivate a friendly and communal atmosphere as described in their mission statement: “It’s where neighbors meet and stories are shared, where local ingredients shine with pride, where design and art reflect the spirit of the region, and where everyone has a seat at the table.” Award-winning chef David Felton helms the kitchen, promising a menu filled with New Jersey-sourced ingredients.

Hoboken is also experiencing a culinary renaissance with the opening of Mile Square Café, a cozy brunch spot that revitalizes the corner of Park Avenue and Eighth Street after a 14-year hiatus. Chef Steve El Hassan and his partners have chosen this location at 746 Park Ave. to serve meals and coffee, aiming to create a welcoming environment for locals and visitors alike.

In Elizabeth, La Kantina has brought a vibrant Mexican dining experience to the community, officially opening on June 24 at 270 Morris Ave. The new restaurant features an enticing menu with a variety of Mexican dishes, including empanadas, tostadas, ceviche, and an impressive selection of tacos and burritos. Diners can also enjoy specialties such as birria style short ribs and seafood & chorizo paella, all complemented by refreshing cocktails.

Secaucus welcomes El Asadero Mexican Grill, which had its grand opening in early July right next to the Hilton Garden Inn at 875 Route 3 East. Founded by the Delgado brothers—Jose, Bonifacio, Marco, Jaime, and Hector—this restaurant marks the expansion of a family business that began in 2012 with the opening of their first location in Passaic. With this new outpost, the Delgado family continues to bring authentic flavors of Mexican cuisine to new audiences across northern New Jersey.

Basking Ridge has also joined the dining scene with the unveiling of Ridge Sandwich & Sweet Company. Formerly known as Ridge Sweet Shoppe, this sandwich and sweet shop has relocated to 31 South Finley Ave. Caitlin Cunningham, a native of Basking Ridge, has revamped and expanded her business, offering an invigorated menu meant to delight local patrons.

Moreover, Hoboken is set to welcome a unique addition with a new pickle shop on First Street. This shop, named Pickle Joy, is taking over a location previously occupied by a barber shop, adding a flavorful twist to the neighborhood. Typically, Hoboken is known for its diverse dining options, and the arrival of a specialty pickle shop further enhances this culinary landscape.

As more restaurants prepare to join the vibrant dining community in northern New Jersey, locals can look forward to an exciting array of culinary experiences to explore in the coming months.
