Exciting Developments in Chicago’s Culinary Scene and Beyond

In a delightful twist, the culinary world was recently shaken up when Chicago-born Pope Leo XIV received a personal-sized Aurelio’s pepperoni pizza during an appearance in St. Peter’s Square.

Coordinated by a group of Midwestern friends, this unique delivery was expertly executed by Cincinnati resident Madeline Daley, who attracted the pope’s attention with a sign proclaiming, “We Have Aurelio’s Pizza.”

Known for his fondness for the suburban pizza chain from his time in Chicago, Pope Leo XIV was touched by the gesture.

Aurelio’s has even commemorated the occasion by creating a special Poperoni pizza in his honor earlier this year.

In a separate but equally exciting update, the popular annual WingOut festival is set to spice things up in Wrigleyville with the presence of Hot Ones creator Sean Evans.

Scheduled for Sunday, August 31, this year’s festival will take place outside Wrigley Field at Gallagher Way from August 30 to 31.

The event will gather over 18 wing vendors, including favorites like Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap, Smoke Daddy, and Woodie’s Flat.

Attendees can look forward to a weekend filled with chicken tastings, live music, and a celebration of the 10th anniversary of WingOut.

Sean Evans, an Evanston native and host of the popular YouTube talk show, will be a VIP guest, engaging with fans while they enjoy delicious wings.

In Uptown, a familiar late-night bar has expanded its horizons by launching a new daytime coffee and pastry menu.

Uptown Lounge, which is close to the recently reopened Lawrence Red Line station, is now serving brews from Intelligentsia along with a variety of baked goods during the day.

For those looking to work or relax, the lounge offers Wi-Fi, but alcohol will only be available starting at 4 p.m.

In a significant change within the local food industry, Makowski’s Real Sausage Company, a cherished name in Chicago, is relocating its operations from Bridgeport to suburban Lansing this November.

This move will enable the company to double its production capacity at a new manufacturing facility.

Having been in operation since 1920 and relocating to Chicago in 1932, Makowski’s produces over 100 varieties of sausage and supplies esteemed local establishments, including the Duck Inn and the Publican.

Lastly, the expanding reach of Chicago’s food scene can be observed with the establishment of a new location for an Italian staple.

Pompei, one of the oldest family-owned restaurants in Chicago, is set to open a new location in Elmwood Park at 22 Conti Parkway in September.

Established in 1909, Pompei will offer customers all their favorite traditional dishes, ranging from sandwiches and strudels to pastas and pizzas.

This new outpost will take over a space previously occupied by a convenience store and a Jewel, and will also feature a presence at the Taste of Elmwood Park from August 7 to 10.

With these exciting changes, Chicago’s culinary landscape continues to flourish, bringing beloved tastes and new experiences to both locals and visitors alike.
