Exciting Culinary Developments: Borromini’s Anticipated Opening and Other Highlights in Fishtown and Kensington

The much-anticipated Borromini restaurant is set to open its doors in Rittenhouse Square by the end of August, marking the return of STARR’s first original concept in Philadelphia in four years.

After years of speculation and planning, the restaurant will have a preview party on August 21st, hinting at a public launch shortly after. Given the timing, there is speculation that the official opening could be as soon as the weekend of August 22nd.

This expansive Italian dining venue, located at 1805 Walnut Street, will occupy two floors and feature multiple dining rooms, upstairs seating, and a patio overlooking Rittenhouse Square. With over 200 seats, it promises to be a significant new addition to the area.

Chef Mark Ladner, renowned for his previous accolades including a James Beard award and two Michelin stars, will be instrumental in designing the menu at Borromini.

His reputation is bolstered by his previous success at Del Posto, where he created the famed “100-Layer Lasagna” that will also make an appearance on Borromini’s menu.

Julian Baker, another veteran of the STARR group from Le Zoo in Miami, will take charge as executive chef, leading a menu rich with classic Italian dishes. Pasta options will include mafaldine in a lemon sauce and rigatoni carbonara, among others.

While the competition is strong, Borromini aims to stand out with its unique offerings that are fresh to the Philadelphia dining scene, focusing solely on Italian cuisine.

Once operational, Borromini will initially serve dinner every night, eventually adding lunch and brunch services.

In Fishtown, the excitement doesn’t stop at Borromini. This Friday, August 8th, the steak frites specialist Medium Rare will officially open its first Philadelphia location at 1540 Frankford Avenue.

Backed by a simple yet appealing concept, the restaurant offers a prix-fixe menu priced at $32.95. Guests can anticipate a culotte steak paired with secret sauce, fresh-cut fries, salad, and bread, along with complimentary seconds of both steak and fries.

This playful eatery will delight patrons with its casual vibe, featuring French pickup lines on cocktail napkins and orders written directly on paper-covered tables.

Medium Rare will operate every evening for dinner, with brunch available on weekends, offering a limited but delightful selection including breakfast sandwiches and unlimited cocktails.

Meanwhile, in Kensington, the beloved Cadence restaurant is returning for two special nights at Emmett.

Chefs Jon Nodler and Samantha Kincaid, previously acclaimed for their cozy atmosphere and delightful dishes at Cadence’s former location on West Girard Avenue, are bringing their exceptional culinary experience back for a limited engagement.

During its original run, Cadence garnered praise for its welcoming ambiance and comfortable setting, providing diners with both comfort and innovation.

The distinctive charm of Cadence, characterized by genuine interactions and an unpretentious dining experience, remains a highlight for those who enjoyed the restaurant during its initial opening.

As Philadelphia’s dining scene continues to evolve, these new openings and collaborations promise to keep food enthusiasts engaged and excited.

From authentic Italian cuisine to unique steak frites to the comforting familiarity of Cadence, the city’s culinary offerings are vibrant and diverse, ensuring that there’s something for everyone to savor.

With all these developments, food lovers should be ready to indulge in what is sure to be a remarkable season of dining across Philadelphia.
