KRTSANISI, Georgia — NATO allies and partner nations gathered in Georgia to enhance combat capabilities during the Agile Spirit 2025 exercise, an annual event aimed at boosting combined readiness and regional stability. Participating nations included Bulgaria, Georgia, Germany, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Türkiye, and Ukraine.
The training sought to improve interoperability and operational capabilities among the armed forces of the participating countries through various exercises. Both air and ground forces engaged in drills over several days, refining their tactics and testing their effectiveness. A notable event was an airborne operation conducted at Incirlik Airbase near Adana, Türkiye.
Service members engaged in live-fire exercises as part of the training. Participants practiced weapon zeroing for sight accuracy and progressed to marksmanship targeting, RPG-7 anti-tank deployment, and crew-served weapons practice.
Among the most involved elements was the 22nd Multinational Battalion, which conducted a complex multinational military police detainee operation. This task underscored the collaborative capacity of allied nations to capture and transport enemy personnel under combat conditions.
“This is the second time that the 22nd Battalion has participated in this multinational exercise,” noted Lt. Col. Giorgi Jalagonia, the battalion’s commander. “Each iteration of this exercise presents an exceptional opportunity to conduct various tactical actions alongside partner countries and familiarize ourselves with different weapon systems in action.”
The participation of forces from countries outside the immediate region further exemplified the commitment to regional security. The United States co-led the exercise alongside Georgian command, reflecting a continued partnership that has spanned 31 years.
“Numerous activities are ongoing within Agile Spirit under the leadership of the West Command of the Defence Forces of Georgia,” said Col. Davita Gagua, JTEC Commander. “The exercise involves various locations of the training and military education command, including representatives from the 7th Army Training Command of U.S. Army Europe and Africa.”
Troops training under this blended command structure gained practical experience through exercises such as air assault missions, weapon range operations, and night operations simulating combat scenarios.
These experiences allow each partner nation to learn from one another and celebrate their collective achievements and acquired skills. More importantly, they provide troops with real-world experience, preparing them for future operations.
As Agile Spirit 2025 draws to a close, the 22nd Multinational Battalion and its partner nations emerge better coordinated, more capable, and ready to face real-world threats. Through shared experiences and collaboration, these forces continue to build a united front. The strong message emerging from this exercise is clear: regional security is a shared responsibility that all nations take seriously.
