Upcoming Events Lead to Street Closures in New York City This Weekend

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — This weekend, several streets across New York City will see closures as part of the continued Summer Streets initiative organized by the New York City Department of Transportation.

The event promotes open streets and highlights outdoor activities for residents and visitors.

In addition to Summer Streets, the weekend will also feature a marathon traversing Harlem and the Staten Island triathlon/duathlon, both contributing to further road closures throughout the city.

Drivers should prepare for detours and increased traffic as they navigate city roadways on Saturday and Sunday.

According to an advisory from the NYPD, closures will be enforced based on the department’s discretion.

### Street Closures on Saturday, Aug. 9

The major streets affected in Manhattan include:

– Centre Street/Federal Plaza between Brooklyn Exit and Worth Street
– Lafayette Street from Worth Street to 4th Avenue/East 9th Street
– 4th Avenue stretching from East 9th Street to East 14th Street
– Union Square East between East 14th Street to East 17th Street
– Park Avenue South from East 17th Street to East 32nd Street
– Park Avenue, which will be closed from East 32nd Street to East 109th Street, including the viaduct between East 40th Street and East 46th Street
– East 109th Street between Park Avenue and 5th Avenue
– 5th Avenue from East 109th Street to Duke Ellington/Frawley Circle
– 110th Street Tito Puente Way/Central Park North/Cathedral Parkway between Duke Ellington/Frawley Circle and Broadway
– Broadway extending from West 110th Street to Dyckman Street
– Kenmare Street between Lafayette Street and Cleveland Place
– Cleveland Place connecting Kenmare Street and Lafayette Street/Spring Street
– Duke Ellington/Frawley Circle
– Frederick Douglass Circle

Rest stops will be positioned at various locations, including:

– Centre Street between Duane Street and Worth Street
– Astor Place between Broadway and Lafayette Street
– 4th Avenue between East 9th Street and East 8th Street/Astor Place
– East 26th Street between Madison Avenue and Lexington Avenue
– East 27th Street between Madison Avenue and Lexington Avenue
– Park Avenue between East 40th Street and East 41st Street
– East 52nd Street between Madison Avenue and Lexington Avenue
– East 53rd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue
– East 109th Street between Madison Avenue and Lexington Avenue
– Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd between Central Park North and West 125th Street
– West 112th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue
– Broadway between West 125th Street and West 126th Street
– West 144th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue
– Broadway from West 166th Street to West 168th Street
– West 175th Street between Broadway and Wadsworth Avenue
– West 180th Street between Broadway and Wadsworth Avenue
– Dyckman Street from Broadway to Henshaw Street
– Broadway between Dyckman Street and Arden Street
– Thayer Street from Broadway to Sherman Avenue

Additional road closures around the city will include other streets such as Cooper Square between Astor Place and 7th Street, Madison Avenue from 27th Street to 23rd Street, and West 124th Street between Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard and Malcolm X Boulevard/Lenox Avenue.

### Events Scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 10

Sunday will feature events such as the A Great Day in Harlem Festival, which will close Riverside Drive West between Tiemann Place and West 120th Street, along with other nearby streets.

The Dominican Day Parade will also take place, causing potential disruptions along 6th Avenue between 36th Street and 55th Street.

Additionally, the Ecuadorian Day Parade in Queens will see closures along Northern Boulevard from 69th Street to 87th Street.

Finally, the 17th Annual Rocco Laurie Memorial Staten Island Triathlon/Duathlon will close Father Capodanno Boulevard between Greeley Avenue and Seaview Avenue.

As these events approach, residents and visitors should plan accordingly, as the various closures will impact transportation throughout the weekend.
