Mercedes-Benz Expands North American Headquarters in Atlanta

In a significant move for the automotive industry, Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will further expand its North American operations by strengthening its presence in Atlanta, Georgia.

Governor Brian Kemp shared the exciting news in May, indicating that the company plans to add 500 jobs to its existing facility while also developing a new research and development (R&D) wing.

This new R&D hub will be located near the company’s headquarters and is expected to foster collaboration with the tech ecosystem in Atlanta.

Governor Kemp emphasized Georgia’s role as a leader in mobility and technical innovation, highlighting how Mercedes-Benz’s growth is indicative of the state’s welcoming business environment.

“Georgia continues to lead the way in the future of mobility and technical innovation, attracting world-class companies like Mercedes-Benz that are driving the automotive industry forward,” Kemp stated during his announcement.

Currently known as “1MB,” the facility is home to 829 employees.

With the expansion, this number will grow, enhancing the operations of Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA), which is responsible for the distribution, development, and marketing of all Mercedes-Benz products in the United States.

GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson praised Mercedes-Benz’s growth as a testament to the business community’s strength in Georgia, stating that their evolving presence reinforces the state’s partnerships with industry leaders.

“Since the strategic decision to relocate Mercedes-Benz USA to Sandy Springs in 2018, we have watched Mercedes-Benz become an integral part of our business community,” Wilson noted.

He added that the company’s ongoing community involvement is an excellent example of why attracting industry leaders is essential for Georgia.

As part of this expansion, local officials expressed their excitement about the positive impact this development will have on metro Atlanta.

Mayor Rusty Paul of Sandy Springs remarked, “We’re excited to see Mercedes-Benz expanding in Sandy Springs.

Since establishing their headquarters here in 2018, they have been outstanding corporate partners.

This decision to grow in Sandy Springs highlights the success of the city’s recent infrastructure and capital investments.”

Mercedes-Benz USA operates under the umbrella of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, which boasts a global workforce of approximately 175,000 employees.

The company is recognized as one of the largest manufacturers of premium passenger cars globally and has a notable presence in the United States, where it sold 374,100 vehicles last year.

Additionally, Mercedes-Benz is directly responsible for 11,100 jobs across the U.S., encompassing corporate and customer service roles within dealerships nationwide.

In his remarks, Jason Hoff, CEO of Mercedes-Benz North America, expressed gratitude to Georgia for its support in solidifying Mercedes-Benz’s roots in the Atlanta area.

“This strengthens our position for continued growth and reinforces our established commitment to the U.S. market,” Hoff stated.

He also mentioned that consolidating their teams in one location will lead to increased agility, speed to market, and enhanced customer experiences.

Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to innovation and collaboration with local talent ensures that the company remains poised for long-term success in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
