In a bold move that redefines casual dining in Highland Park Village, No. 1 Steak has opened its doors at the same address as the popular brunch destination, Sadelle’s. This innovative restaurant, which operates only on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, offers a unique dining experience centered around prime New York strip steaks and martinis.
Mario Carbone, co-founder of Major Food Group, which oversees both Sadelle’s and No. 1 Steak, describes the latter as a “case study” in evolving dining options. With a track record of high-profile restaurant openings around the globe, from New York to Miami and beyond, Major Food Group is known for its theatrical dining experiences.
Despite its glitzy background, Carbone acknowledges that a steakhouse was not initially part of their plans when they signed leases in Dallas over three years ago. No. 1 Steak presents itself as a different breed of steakhouse, with its operations set to run as a limited-time test until at least the close of 2025.
For just $59 per person, diners can indulge in a three-course dinner composed of a fresh green salad with mustard dressing, a hearty serving of prime strip steak complemented by fried Texas 1015 onion rings, and a delightful frozen yogurt topped with salted caramel sauce, sourced from Volleman’s Family Farm.
The experience is designed to be swift, with Carbone suggesting that a complete meal could take around an hour. However, given Major Food Group’s penchant for flair, there are enticing add-ons available for those looking to elevate their meal: $18 oysters, a $20 shrimp cocktail, or even $130 caviar. A special dessert option includes a pecan-coconut chocolate cake for an additional $15, served with whipped cream presented tableside.
This flexible dining model allows patrons to customize their experience; they can indulge in the add-ons or choose to stick with the core menu. Carbone emphasizes that diners have the freedom to engage as much or as little as they wish, further enhancing the unique and adaptable dining atmosphere at No. 1 Steak.
The name No. 1 Steak pays homage to its prestigious location at 1 Highland Park Village, which Carbone proudly claims is “the best address in Dallas.” He appreciates the straightforward presentation of the restaurant’s menu, which he describes as a refreshing departure from the elaborate setups of many traditional dining establishments.
Looking to the future, Major Food Group remains open to expanding its footprint in Dallas. When the company entered the Dallas market with Sadelle’s and later Carbone, the possibility of further developments in the area was left on the table. Carbone has expressed interest in making more investments in the Design District, although details remain under wraps.
The collective intent of Major Food Group is clear: they are committed to solidifying their presence in Dallas for the long-term, aiming to integrate more deeply into the local hospitality scene. Carbone envisions future projects in synergy with the hotel community, hinting at exciting developments ahead without disclosing specifics.
