SAN DIEGO, CA — This weekend, Hot Wheels Monster Trucks are set to return to San Diego, hosting a brand-new show named Glow-N-Fire, in a special celebration of the 50th birthday of the legendary Bigfoot monster truck.
Following the success of last year’s Glow Party, the Pechanga Arena will come alive with excitement on Saturday and Sunday, featuring three action-packed showtimes.
The event promises to showcase fan-favorite monster trucks, including Mega Wrex, Tiger Shark, HW 5-Alarm, Bone Shaker, Gunkster, and the newcomer Skelesaurus, in addition to the iconic Bigfoot.
Caleb Janezich, the current driver of Bigfoot, expressed the significance of the 50-year milestone, stating, “We’re celebrating 50 years of Bigfoot, but 50 years of monster trucks, really.”
Janezich has been part of the Bigfoot team since 2022 and stepped into the driver’s seat a year ago, transitioning from a lifelong fan to a key representative of the iconic brand.
“It’s a big honor,” Janezich shared with Patch. “It’s a lot to take in sometimes. It’s a big name to represent, but I love doing it.”
The original Bigfoot, which began in 1975, was created by Bob Chandler, a carpenter who modified his Ford F-250 pickup to promote his four-wheel-drive shop. This innovation evolved into the first public car crush demonstration in 1981, marking Bigfoot as the original monster truck and paving the way for the sport.
Janezich admires the origin story of Bigfoot, highlighting its humble beginnings. “I love where Bigfoot came from and how it started, and really, how Bigfoot started is what started the whole monster truck industry,” he explained.
To celebrate Bigfoot’s birthday, fans are encouraged to bring homemade birthday cards and signs for a chance to win prizes during the show. Additionally, they can visit hotwheelsmonstertruckslive.com to leave special birthday messages for Bigfoot and inform event organizers of any birthdays they are celebrating.
Certain birthday messages will even be shared during the performance, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Event organizers promise that this year’s show will retain the fun and excitement fans expect, but with a fiery twist. Highlights include a special appearance from a transforming robot and thrilling performances from the Freestyle Motocross Team.
Beyond the main event, attendees can join the interactive Pre-Show Party, taking place two and a half hours before each performance. This exclusive opportunity allows fans to access the arena floor, view the trucks up close, and meet the drivers.
For those opting for Pre-Show Party tickets, a package including an autograph card, lanyard, and souvenir pass will enhance the experience.
Janezich emphasized the importance of fan engagement in the monster truck world. “It’s all about the fans. It’s always motivating and makes you feel good when you see people being excited. That’s really what monster trucks are all about. It’s all about fans, families, and kids, and putting on a show for them.”
The show schedule includes performances at 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, along with a 7:30 p.m. show on Sunday. Pre-shows are set for 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 5 p.m. on Sunday.
