October is a significant month for the LGBTQ+ community, designated as LGBTQ+ History Month, and a series of events in Dallas is set to showcase the rich tapestry of this history, particularly focusing on the contributions of trailblazing women leaders.
On October 16th, The Dallas Way will host ‘Outrageous Oral Vol. 34: Trailblazing Women Leaders’ featuring notable speakers such as Candy Marcum, Lory Masters, Louise Young, and Jeanne Rubin. This event will take place from 6-8 p.m. in The Rose Room inside S4 at 3911 Cedar Springs Road. These inspiring women will share their firsthand experiences and early involvement in the North Texas LGBTQ+ community, with Dallas Voice Managing Editor Tammye Nash moderating the discussion. This gathering promises to highlight the vital roles these women played in shaping the local LGBTQ+ landscape.
The month begins on October 10th with two exciting events. First, The Meadows Museum at SMU will continue its Luis Martín Lecture Series in the Humanities with a presentation by María Beatriz H. Carrión, on ‘En foco: Mexican and Mexican-American Photographs.’ This lecture is part of a four-part series that offers free entry for SMU faculty, staff, and students as well as museum members, while outside attendees can participate for a fee of $60.
Additionally, on the same day, the Fort Worth Opera will open its 80th season featuring tenor Jonathan Tetelman in concert at The Van Cliburn Concert Hall at TCU, starting at 7 p.m. Concert tickets begin at $75, and those wishing to enjoy an elegant evening can purchase tickets for Dinner With the Stars, which start at $250. The North Texas Pride Association will hold its much-anticipated 2025 North Texas Pride Celebration on October 11, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Art Center of Plano.
