The 101st National Amateur Cup Kicks Off This Weekend

The 101st edition of the National Amateur Cup begins this weekend, marking a significant event in United Adult Amateur Soccer Association (USASA) history.

For the seventh consecutive tournament, this prestigious cup plays a role in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

Whichever team emerges as the national champion will automatically qualify for the 2026 US Open Cup.

The tournament structure divides the United States into four distinct regions.

Region I encompasses the Northeast, Region II covers the Midwest, Region III is dedicated to the South, and Region IV represents the West.

Each region hosts its own Amateur Cup tournament, following specific formats.

The regional winners then converge to compete in a four-team national championship.

For more comprehensive information about the tournament’s structure, please refer to our article titled “What is the National Amateur Cup?”

As we gear up for this exciting tournament, let’s take a look at the current status of each region.

**REGION I (NORTHEAST)**

Region I hosts the highest level of competition among the four regions in the USASA.

The tournament mainly allows participation from teams that have qualified by winning state cups or other qualifying tournaments.

Out of the last ten National Amateur Cup champions, six have originated from the Northeast region, with three teams qualifying directly for the Open Cup.

Among these teams is the defending National Amateur Cup champion, New York Pancyprian Freedoms, who faced an exit in Round 2 of the 2025 US Open Cup earlier this week.

The Regional tournament is scheduled to take place from Sunday, April 6 to June 14, 2025.

The tournament format is a single elimination knockout, featuring a bracket of 16 teams divided into Northern and Southern sections.

The American Premier Soccer League, previously known as the Eastern Premier Soccer League, has the highest representation in the region with six teams participating.

Pennsylvania leads as the most represented state with three teams entered into the tournament.

The final two teams will compete in the regional final at the Ukrainian American Sport Center located in Horsham, PA.

Here is the schedule for Region I:

Each team must have a separate roster for participation.

**REGION II (MIDWEST)**

In the Midwest, the registration for the USASA Region II Amateur Cup, also referred to as the Bill Davey Amateur Cup, had its closure on March 17.

Teams from the region’s 14 state associations and the National Premier Soccer League were eligible to sign up for the tournament.

This region offers open admission, allowing any eligible team to enter the competition.

The format remains a single-elimination knockout bracket.

The 26 teams participating in the tournament and the general schedule were revealed earlier this week, as reported by TheCup.us on Twitter (X) and Bluesky.

The Midwest Premier Soccer League has the highest representation with 11 teams involved, while Illinois has the most teams from a single state, contributing nine teams overall.

**REGION III (SOUTH)**

At this time, no information has been provided regarding the USASA Region III Amateur Cup.

**REGION IV (WEST)**

The USASA Region IV Amateur Cup will feature a new structure for 2025.

According to the region’s official website, the tournament will be centralized in Salt Lake City, UT, and will span three days from June 20 to June 22, 2025.

Teams must register by the deadline of May 23, 2025, and the participation fee is set at $400.

In previous years, the Region IV tournament faced disorganization, fluctuating between open admission for eligible teams to participate due to issues such as leadership changes and travel hardships.

Last year, the tournament was open to teams, resulting in ten signups.

Ultimately, the final four teams competed in a single-location knockout tournament held in Las Vegas, NV, where FC Arizona (AZ, NPSL) claimed victory.

The description for the 2025 tournament suggests a possible continuation of last year’s format.

Knockout rounds may occur regionally until only four teams remain, who will then converge in Utah in late June.

As details become available, further information about the tournament will be communicated.

For now, teams from the relevant state associations and the National Premier Soccer League can register for the tournament.
