Craig Ferguson Trades 15th-Century Scottish Castle for Upper East Side Co-Op

Scottish-born comedian Craig Ferguson, former host of “The Late Late Show” on CBS, has made a significant lifestyle change by selling his historic 15th-century Scottish castle and relocating to the Upper East Side of New York City.

The couple has purchased a classic co-op for $1.79 million, featuring two bedrooms and 1½ bathrooms, located in the East 80s, just a block away from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park.

The unit comes beautifully decorated by the previous owner, an interior designer, and the couple paid the full asking price.

Ferguson expressed his excitement about returning to New York, stating, “We’re very happy to be back in New York.”

He reminisced about his younger years spent in the East Village, saying, “When I was in my 20s in New York, I lived in the East Village, and I always thought, ‘If I ever make any money, I’m going to get a place on the Upper East Side.’ It was an aspirational thing for me. I always kind of loved this neighborhood.”

It is worth noting that the Upper East Side is also where he met his wife, Megan Wallace Cunningham, during her time working at an art gallery in the area.

Ferguson is particularly delighted to have a revamped venue for his live comedy shows and his podcast, “Joy, a Podcast. Hosted by Craig Ferguson.”

He noted, “If you want to do a podcast in person, you kind of have to go to where people live, and that’s one of the many reasons why we moved back to New York.”

Much like any New Yorker, Ferguson has his favorite local dining spots, including the not-so-fancy Three Guys diner, Nectar on Madison Avenue, and Saba’s Pizza on Lexington.

Last August, Ferguson sold his 13-bedroom historic castle in Ayrshire, Scotland, for approximately $5.3 million just weeks after listing it, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The estate had been purchased in 2021 and boasted a five-bedroom coach house along with three smaller cottages, complemented by an impressive 1.8 miles of salmon and trout fishing.

Alongside the castle sale, Ferguson also parted with a second Scottish estate. With his youngest child nearing high school, the comedian decided it was time to return to New York, where he first launched his career.

Engaged in the New York apartment transaction, Ferguson was represented by Corcoran’s Gino Filippone, who adhered to specific instructions from the comedian—restricting the house hunt to a five-block radius bounded by Fifth to Madison and Park avenues, never venturing farther east.

The couple’s new abode features original prewar details, including hardwood floors and intricate moldings. A large foyer welcomes visitors, showcasing a mural painted by the studio Happy Menocal.

The spacious living and dining area is complemented by a dedicated study as well as a windowed kitchen. The bedrooms share a spacious bath.

Ferguson, who hosted “The Late Late Show” for nearly a decade before quitting in December 2014, stated that he is thrilled to be testing out new material and performing in New York once again.
