Palace Hotel Celebrates 150 Years with Exclusive Heritage Route Package

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA—The historic Palace Hotel in San Francisco is celebrating 150 years through the glory days of travel with an exclusive room package and curated experience aboard the historic Napa Valley Wine Train.

Steeped in rich legacy and culture, the Palace Hotel—a Luxury Collection Hotel that is part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of over 30 extraordinary hotel brands—and the Napa Valley Wine Train preserve pieces of history within a setting that pays homage to the past while embracing the future.

“As we continue to celebrate this important milestone for the hotel, we are thrilled to partner with Napa Valley Wine Train to offer our guests a memorable experience that harkens back to a bygone era,” said Angie Clifton, general manager of Palace Hotel.

“Whether they are walking under a glass ceiling dating back to when San Francisco was bustling with horse-drawn carriages or gazing out a locomotive window with a glass of champagne on a journey through Napa’s vineyards, visitors get to experience history come to life in a unique and tangible way.”

The exclusive Heritage Route Package begins at Palace Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel at 2 Montgomery St. in the heart of San Francisco.

Guests— participants must be 21 or older— are welcomed with commemorative-branded amenities from both the Napa Valley Wine Train and the hotel, and will enjoy the spacious and lavish accommodations.

A luxury car transports guests to and from Napa Valley Wine Country for an immersive six-hour Legacy Experience on the Napa Valley Wine Train.

The curated package Heritage Route Package starts just under $2,400 for two guests and includes:

“On the heels of the Napa Valley Railroad’s 175th anniversary, we appreciate the significance of honoring the legacy that historic institutions such as the Palace Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Francisco serve in today’s world as they become more of a rarity,” said Nathan Davis, general manager of the Napa Valley Wine Train.

“We look forward to welcoming guests to be a part of this journey through time so they can get a glimpse of the past while enjoying the luxuries and sights of today.”

Palace Hotel has been a landmark in San Francisco since its debut in 1875.

It was the first luxury hotel in the city and, at the time, was the largest in the world.

Like much of San Francisco, the hotel was decimated during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

The revitalized property opened its doors in 1909 with state-of-the-art facilities and architectural details that brought a new sense of style and opulence to San Francisco and marked a significant milestone in American hospitality.

It is a mainstay of San Francisco’s architectural landscape and an ideal starting point for taking in all the city has to offer.

Sip on Signature Afternoon Tea, meander through a museum of the hotel’s storied history and enjoy the heated indoor pool —capping it off with a drink at the most celebrated cocktail destinations in San Francisco.

At over 175 years old, the Napa Valley Railroad — where the Napa Valley Wine Train travels every day—also enjoys a rich history.

It is a story of resilience and transformation, starting with the gold rush and wealthy citizens of early California to the inaugural Wine Train voyage.

Today, the Napa Valley Wine Train is one of the few active historic passenger railroads in the United States, featuring antique Pullman rail cars faithfully restored with Honduran mahogany paneling, brass accents, etched glass partitions and plush armchairs that evoke the spirit of luxury rail travel at the beginning of the 20th century.

The Napa Valley Wine Train journey offers guests an engaging and memorable experience with fine dining service, multi-course meals cooked to order, and tastings at Napa Valley’s acclaimed wineries while rolling past a landscape of grapes on the vine.
