Taylor Tomlinson, the acclaimed comedian and writer, has a busy lifestyle that keeps her on the go.
Having hosted CBS’s talk and variety show ‘After Midnight’ for two seasons, she balances her time between her career and life in Los Angeles, which she has called home for nine years.
Due to a packed stand-up schedule, especially with her ongoing ‘The Save Me Tour,’ Tomlinson spends approximately 20 Sundays in L.A. each year.
As she maps out her ideal Sunday, which avoids the chaos of airport layovers, her day is simple yet fulfilling, beginning with her favorite morning drink and ending with sushi and a movie.
Tomlinson shares the components of her perfect Sunday in Los Angeles, starting with her signature morning matcha.
**9 a.m.: Whisk Up Some Morning Matcha**
In a perfect world, she would sleep from midnight until 9 a.m.
Opting for matcha instead of coffee due to headaches, she meticulously prepares her drink with unsweetened almond milk, cinnamon, and a vanilla protein shake for creaminess.
Tomlinson enjoys the ritual of making matcha at home, appreciating the process that includes boiling water and whisking in the matcha powder using a bamboo whisk.
She feels a sense of accomplishment in the routine of her morning drink.
**9:30 a.m.: Back to Bed with a Book**
After her matcha, Tomlinson retreats to bed with a good book.
Acknowledging her struggle with prioritizing leisure reading, she mentions her current reads: Chuck Palahniuk’s ‘Consider This’ and R.F. Kuang’s ‘The Dragon Republic.’
As she works on her own book, she tries to balance between reading for fun and reading for educational purposes.
**10:15 a.m.: Self-Scramble Some Breakfast**
As someone who enjoys cooking at home, Tomlinson preps a healthy scramble for breakfast.
Her dish includes eggs, turkey, zucchini, spinach, and bell pepper, topped with avocado.
While she loves dining out during her travels, home-cooked meals hold a special appeal for her.
**11:45 a.m.: Make for the Melrose Trading Post**
Following breakfast, her adventure continues at the Melrose Trading Post at Fairfax High School.
Despite being a basic Sunday outing, it’s a cherished social activity she shares with friends, including fellow comedians Zach Noe Towers and Sophie Buddle.
At the flea market, she often browses for unique finds, showcasing her fondness for vintage leather jackets and quirky decor items.
Recently, she purchased a custom-painted wardrobe that complements her bedroom, highlighting her knack for home design.
In addition to shopping, she enjoys the local food offerings, such as Thai food from food trucks.
**2 p.m.: Vroom Over to Vroman’s**
Next, she heads to Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena, a significant independent bookstore filled with a variety of books, gifts, and stationery.
Tomlinson has quickly become a fan, especially for its eclectic selection of notebooks, which she uses for different purposes in her work.
From spiral-ring notebooks for her set lists to stenographer notebooks for new material, her collection reflects her organized approach to comedy writing.
**3 p.m.: Head to the Huntington**
If she opts not to write in Vroman’s café, Tomlinson continues her day at the beautiful Huntington.
As a member for years, the Huntington’s gardens serve as a peaceful retreat where she can relax or write.
Whether sitting with a book or reflecting in the Japanese garden, this tranquil space offers a perfect escape.
**5:30 p.m.: Sushi in Studio City**
After a day filled with delightful activities, it’s time for sushi at one of her favorite local restaurants, Sushi Tomoki, in Studio City.
She enjoys arriving right at opening time to avoid long wait times, as the sushi is well-loved and can get crowded quickly.
With fast service and high-quality food, it becomes a perfect dining experience to conclude her Sunday.
**7 p.m.: Take in a Movie at Universal CityWalk**
After dinner, Tomlinson and her friends, all AMC Stubs A-List members, head to Universal CityWalk for a movie.
Although CityWalk might be considered a typical spot, its proximity to the sushi restaurant is practical for their Sunday routine.
The group enjoys discussing the film post-viewing while walking around CityWalk, turning a simple outing into a communal experience.
Reflecting on her last visit, Tomlinson recalls seeing ‘Paddington in Peru,’ which undoubtedly added enjoyable memories to her weekend.
As Taylor Tomlinson continues her journey through stand-up comedy and writing, her ideal Sunday is a playful mix of relaxation, friendship, and simple pleasures that ground her amidst a busy life.
