The GRAMMY Museum is excited to announce an evening with multi-platinum artist SYML, set to take place in the cozy 200-seat Clive Davis Theater.
The event will feature a discussion moderated by actor and film producer Aaron Paul, focusing on SYML’s rising career, creative process, and his latest project, Nobody Lives Here, followed by a special performance.
SYML, the solo endeavor of Seattle artist Brian Fennell, creates music that resonates with the human instinct for sanctuary, be it a physical place or a person.
His newest album, Nobody Lives Here, showcases his clearest and most refined writing yet.
Written, recorded, and produced alongside his longtime collaborator Brian Eichelberger, the album is inspired by the duality of life, recognizing it as a fleeting contradiction.
Fennell notes that although life often brings loss, it also allows for warmth and connection through music—whether it’s melody, heartfelt lyrics, or the symphonic hum of a cello.
His openness about both vulnerability and strength marks his artistry, as he navigates themes of grief and mortality in a truly impactful way.
“If the dark inspires the good, that’s a good thing to be honest about,” Fennell states.
He initially captivated audiences with his self-titled debut album in 2019, which features the multi-platinum hit “Where’s My Love” and the Gold Record favorite “Girl.”
Fennell’s 2023 album, The Day My Father Died, has garnered accolades, with NPR describing it as “euphoric.”
This album was recorded at Studio X under the guidance of acclaimed producer Phil Ek and features notable collaborations with artists like Guy Garvey from Elbow, Lucius, Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek, and Charlotte Lawrence.
SYML’s music has found a place in the soundtracks of numerous films and television shows and notably appears in Lana Del Rey’s song “Paris, TX” from her GRAMMY-nominated album of 2023.
With over four billion streams, SYML’s evocative songwriting continues to resonate deeply with audiences, confronting profound topics such as loss and the passage of time directly.
