Marathon Burger, one of Los Angeles’s newest culinary sensations, is set to launch its second location on the iconic Venice Beach Boardwalk this Saturday, May 31.
After the successful opening of its Melrose shop in March, the popular burger joint led by Samiel “Blacc Sam” Asghedom, brother of the late rapper Nipsey Hussle, is eager to bring its crispy-edged smash burgers to Venice.
Situated next to the pickup basketball courts and the famous Muscle Beach, the new spot occupies a space that was previously home to another beloved LA burger establishment, the Window.
Marathon Burger started its journey as a pop-up in the Fairfax district and has quickly gained a loyal following since the full-service launch in March.
Patrons flock to the location to enjoy a variety of offerings including wagyu smash burgers, chicken wings, and crispy fries.
With notable figures from the music industry, such as Young Thug and Boosie, as regular customers, the restaurant has undoubtedly made its mark.
Originally, Asghedom had plans to open a Venice location in the future but didn’t anticipate doing so so soon.
“When opportunities present themselves, you gotta kind of jump on it,” he explained.
When the opportunity arose for a prime spot on the boardwalk, he felt compelled to act.
The Marathon team has quickly rebranded the exterior of the new location to reflect its signature colors — white with red and black accents — in preparation for this weekend’s grand opening.
At the Venice location, a simplified menu will feature popular items such as smash burgers, hot wings, and a vegan patty, allowing customers to enjoy their meals without the long wait times experienced at the Melrose shop.
A new double cheeseburger will be introduced, topped with grilled onions, lettuce, Fresno peppers, pickles, ketchup, mustard, and a proprietary sauce.
Breakfast will be served daily from 7 a.m. to noon, featuring options like French toast waffles, breakfast sandwiches, orange juice, and coffee.
Additionally, patrons can indulge in delightful ice cream offerings, a staple for boardwalk visitors.
However, the Venice location will not include salads, mushroom burgers, or milkshakes from its Melrose counterpart to keep service efficient.
With an emphasis on high-volume service, outdoor seating will also be available, allowing diners a chance to enjoy the vibrant boardwalk atmosphere.
Marathon Burger’s roots trace back to Asghedom and Hussle’s childhood, where they honed their skills in a family-owned restaurant.
Nipsey Hussle established the Marathon brand in 2010 and remained committed to supporting economic independence for Black entrepreneurs until his tragic death in 2019.
Looking ahead, Asghedom has revealed that additional locations are on the horizon.
“We have a location we’re eyeing, but I don’t know if it will be location four or five.
We’re trying to figure out the best strategic location,” he said.
The Venice Beach Boardwalk has seen its fair share of restaurant turnover in recent years, but with a well-established fan base and Venice’s prominence as a tourist destination, Marathon Burger is poised for success this summer.
Marathon Burger Venice will open its doors on May 31, 2025, operating from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., with late-night delivery available from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m. at 1827 Oceanfront Walk, Venice, CA, 90291.
