As the weekend approaches, Southern Nevada is brimming with activities and events that promise entertainment for residents and visitors alike.

Ranging from lively performances to family-friendly movie nights, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this weekend.

One of the standout events is the Beat the Heat Beach Bash, taking place on Saturday, May 31, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Walker Pool in North Las Vegas.

Amid an extreme heat warning, this event provides a refreshing escape with a live DJ, snacks, games, and a raffle, all in celebration of the end of the school year and the start of summer vacation for local children.

The magic of theatre is alive at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park this weekend, as Super Summer Theatre opens its 50th season with the performance of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

This humorous retelling of a Biblical story has shows scheduled for Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31, both starting at 8:05 p.m.

Tickets for this whimsical production begin at $28 and promise to deliver a memorable experience.

For those who love music and nostalgia, the Silver Statesmen Barbershop Chorus and Quartets will be performing “Dastardly Deeds in the Desert” on Saturday, May 31, at the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center and again on Sunday, June 1, at Summerlin Library & Performing Arts Center.

Each performance starts at 2 p.m., offering a throwback to classic melodrama with heroes, villains, and quirky characters, all set in an Old West-inspired fictional town.

Tickets for these performances are priced at $20, with free admission for kids aged 12 and under.

In honor of Memorial Day, which may have just passed, the City of North Las Vegas will host a free Memorial Day Barbecue and Resource Fair on Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Taking place at the Veterans and Community Resource Center, this event seeks to connect veterans, their families, and community members with local organizations that support the veteran community.

Attendees will also enjoy a car show featuring vehicles from the North Las Vegas Fire Department and Nellis Air Force Base.

For movie enthusiasts, the City of North Las Vegas is bringing back its Movie Madness Series with a free screening of “Surf’s Up” at Municipal Par 3 Golf Course on Friday, May 30, at dusk.

Saturday, May 31, will see the return of Movies on the Green at The District at Green Valley Ranch, featuring a screening of “Moana 2” as the sun sets.

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, towels, and camping chairs for an enjoyable movie night under the stars!

Additionally, those in Nye County can catch a free screening of “Despicable Me 4” in Pahrump at the Ian Deutch Memorial Park, Field 4, also beginning at dusk on Saturday, May 31.

Nature lovers can take part in a free Nature Walk & Talk on Saturday, May 31, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Craig Ranch Regional Park’s Garden Plaza in North Las Vegas.

This class provides an opportunity to connect with nature, learn more about environmental conservation, and enjoy a tranquil stroll through the park.

For operatic enthusiasts, the Vegas City Opera will perform “The Dangerous Liaisons” twice this weekend.

Based on an 18th-century novel, this scandalous tale of love and revenge will take place on Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31, starting at 7 p.m. at Charleston Heights Arts Center.

Tickets start at $25 for this captivating production.

Finally, to celebrate the end of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the LV Kaminari Taiko group will be hosting a free interactive drum performance at the West Charleston Library on Friday, May 30, at 7 p.m.

This engaging program will not only provide entertainment but will educate the audience about the history and meaning of taiko drumming, featuring an interactive demonstration and a performance that blends traditional songs with contemporary pieces.
