2025 American Black Film Festival to Host Community Day in Historic Overtown

The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) is set to conclude its five-day event with an exciting Community Day on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

In a collaboration with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, this year’s finale will take place at The Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater in Historic Overtown from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

The event is free and welcomes the South Florida community, with special emphasis on Miami-area residents and festival attendees.

To ensure a spot, interested participants are encouraged to reserve their tickets online.

The Community Day will feature a lineup of film screenings and a vendor expo, promising a lively atmosphere.

Among the highlights is the world premiere of DreamWorks Animation’s short film “Wednesdays With Gramps.”

Additionally, there will be an encore presentation of the highly anticipated film “Trouble Man,” which will include a talkback session with producer, director, and star Michael Jai White.

“This year marks a significant milestone as ABFF celebrates its 20-year partnership with the South Florida community,” said NICE CROWD Founder & CEO Jeff Friday.

He expressed excitement about the opportunity to connect with attendees at the festival’s Community Day.

“For two decades, the Miami community has played a vital role in shaping the festival’s spirit. We look forward to continuing this meaningful connection in Historic Overtown.”

David Whitaker, President and CEO of GMCVB, also highlighted the importance of the relationship between the ABFF and the local community.

He stated, “For 20 years, Greater Miami and Miami Beach have proudly embraced the American Black Film Festival as our home-grown event.”

Whitaker acknowledged how this long-standing partnership has contributed to the branding of both the festival and the destination.

Conne Kinnard, Senior Vice President at the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, shared insights on the importance of involving local vendors and artists in the event.

“By collaborating with local businesses, we aim to create an intersection between them and festival participants,” Kinnard noted.

This year, the footprint will be expanded to better showcase Miami’s creative community by utilizing a portion of the Lyric Plaza.
