In the heart of Center City, Pure Green Juice Bar is making waves as it embraces health and community in a profound way. This establishment is not just about nourishing the body, but also about healing the soul, thanks to its owner, TLynn Council, who is dedicated to spreading love through food.
Council, a licensed social worker, opened Pure Green on 11th and Walnut with the vision of providing wholesome, all-natural options without preservatives. Her passion for helping others finds its way into the dishes she creates, like the Berry Wake-Up—a warm and hearty bowl of steel-cut oats integrated with energy-boosting superfoods and antioxidants.
Recently, the juice bar received a major boost from Philadelphia influencer Brandon Edelman, known as Bran Flakezz, who recognized that the business was struggling just five months after its launch. With a social media following of over a million and a half, Edelman felt a strong moral obligation to step in and assist.
In February, he rallied his followers, urging them to support a Black, female-owned business on the brink of closure. His heartfelt message struck a chord, leading to a video that garnered nearly two million views. Thanks to this surge of community support, Pure Green has transformed from near shutdown to bustling with customers during lunch hours.
Edelman’s dedication did not stop at awareness. He initiated a GoFundMe campaign, contributing $3,000 of his own funds towards a goal of $70,000. To date, the campaign has exceeded expectations, raising around $89,000, which has allowed Council to continue her work.
Reflecting on the kindness shown to her, Council expressed her gratitude with palpable emotion. “I literally, honestly cried like a baby because miracles work,” she shared, revealing her struggle and the overwhelming support she has received. “Good people are still here. I keep asking: ‘What can I do to pay him back?’
Edelman, however, emphasizes that he seeks no repayment, only a sense of fulfillment from making a positive impact in the community. With a background rooted in entrepreneurship—being the son of small business owners—he is committed to using his platform to uplift others and help them achieve their dreams.
Initially working in fashion merchandising at URBN, Edelman turned his hobby of creating videos into a thriving full-time career. He dedicates himself wholeheartedly to his work, claiming it as his greatest success and source of fulfillment. “I’ve never worked harder in my life than I do today. I’ve never seen more success or felt as fulfilled,” he stated.
The Berry Wake-Up, which encapsulates the essence of Pure Green, can be recreated at home for anyone seeking a tasty and nutritious start to their day. This simple recipe includes cooking steel-cut oats, topping them with granola, fresh blueberries, shaved coconut, a drizzle of natural honey, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
As Pure Green continues to thrive, it stands as a testament to the power of community, compassion, and the healing nature of food—reminding us all that together, we can make a difference.
