Celebrating National Donut Day: Free Treats Across Los Angeles County

Los Angeles, CA — National Donut Day, celebrated on the first Friday in June, brings a sweet treat for Angelenos as numerous local and nationwide chains dish out free doughnuts this week.

Originating in Chicago in 1938, National Donut Day honors the heroic efforts of volunteer women, known as the “Doughnut Lassies,” who traveled overseas to support soldiers during World War I.

These women began frying doughnuts in soldiers’ helmets to provide comfort food, boosting morale and creating a lasting legacy that has led to this annual celebration.

The tradition of enjoying doughnuts doesn’t just come from wartime history; it also stretches back to the 19th century, when Dutch immigrants introduced “olykoeks” to New Amsterdam, paving the way for the beloved ring-shaped pastries we know today.

In the United States, doughnuts continue to be a national favorite, with Americans consuming approximately 10 billion doughnuts annually.

For those looking to join in the celebration, several establishments across LA County are offering irresistible deals and free doughnuts.

At 7-Eleven, rewards members can snag a glazed doughnut for just 50 cents on June 6 at participating locations.

Following National Donut Day, this same doughnut will be available for $1 through June 24.

Dunkin’ takes part in the festivities as well, celebrating its 15th year of giving a free doughnut with any beverage purchase.

Additionally, they’re collaborating with luxury brand Stoney Clover Lane to create limited-edition merchandise for their breakfast items.

Krispy Kreme is joining the celebration by offering guests a free doughnut of their choice with no purchase required on Friday.

To mark the 88th birthday of the Original Glazed doughnut, the chain is also allowing customers to purchase a dozen of these signature treats for just $2 with any regular-priced dozen bought in shop or drive-thru.

Krispy Kreme will also initiate their “14 Days of Original Glazed” promotion for rewards club members starting Saturday, featuring special deals until June 20.

Maverick and Kum & Go are also getting in on the action with a generous offer of 50 percent off doughnuts for their customers all day on Friday.

Notably, there’s no limit on the number of doughnuts customers can purchase, aside from standard item exclusions outlined in a recent press release.

Paris Baguette will provide rewards members with a free sugar mochi or small twisted doughnut with any purchase, sweetening the deal further for loyal customers.

Randy’s Donuts, a classic LA establishment, is anticipating crowds as they offer a complimentary classic donut from 6 a.m. to noon on Friday at various locations.

Gourmet doughnut brand Sidecar Doughnuts is introducing a special variety, Millionaire’s Shortbread, for the holiday.

The first 50 customers at each location will receive free Sidecar merchandise along with their purchase.

Lastly, Voodoo Doughnut will entice sweet-tooth shoppers with a promotion where in-store customers can receive a free doughnut of their choice when they purchase a $10 Pink Raised Glazed Dozen.

So, don’t miss out on the sweet deals and delicious commemorations of National Donut Day this week across Los Angeles County!
