Miami Immersive Intensive Set to Transform Local Arts Scene in 2025

Live Arts Miami and Juggerknot Theatre Company have announced an exciting new partnership that aims to reshape the landscape of immersive arts in Miami.

This collaboration is set to launch the Miami Immersive Intensive (MII), a four-day workshop and gathering designed for creators, performers, and producers.

Scheduled to take place from June 26 to 29, 2025, at The Idea Center on Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, MII promises a range of hands-on workshops, panel discussions, and curated outings led by a diverse array of experts in the field of immersive performance.

Both organizations have been key players in Miami’s cultural evolution, contributing significantly through initiatives like Juggerknot’s Miami Motel Stories series and Live Arts’ commitment to innovative performances.

Together, they have redefined how art is experienced, actively transforming spaces, engaging communities, and pushing artistic boundaries.

The Immersive Intensive arrives at a dynamic time when immersive performance is gaining recognition as a compelling and experimental form of contemporary art.

This form transcends traditional limits, inviting audiences into fully embodied and multi-sensory experiences that resonate on multiple levels, often responding to the unique characteristics of the environment.

MII is positioned to create a new platform for learning and creative development, uniquely tied to Miami’s vibrant artistic community while also fostering a global vision.

Among the highlights of the event will be MiKhael Tara Garver, the founder of Culture House Immersive and formerly the director of Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience, who will serve as a keynote speaker and workshop leader.

Participants can also look forward to a live-streamed session with Lauren Storr, senior producer for Punchdrunk’s acclaimed production Sleep No More, which will delve into the complexities of producing large-scale immersive experiences.

Additionally, Alexandra Renzo, creative director at Meow Wolf, will focus on collective creativity and immersive world-making in her workshop.

Other notable facilitators include France Luce Benson, playwright of Miami Bus Stop Stories; Tanya Bravo, producer of Miami Motel Stories; and choreographers Octavio Campos and Pioneer Winter.

A workshop on transmedia storytelling and interactive technologies will be led by the French transmedia collective Le Clair Obscur, who will also present the performance “Drift” in collaboration with FilmGate Miami at the Frost Museum of Science.

The program will conclude with a keynote presentation by Natasha Tsakos, who is pioneering live performance in microgravity environments.

Designed for artists, curators, producers, and performers of all levels, MII elegantly combines practical training with expansive artistic thought.

The rich schedule encompasses hands-on workshops, panel discussions, intimate roundtable dinners with local creators, and interactive technology experiences.

Participants will engage in deep discussions surrounding the logistics, aesthetics, and ethics of immersive work, covering everything from movement-based storytelling to virtual reality encounters.

Tanya Bravo, Founder of Juggerknot Theatre Company, emphasized the importance of this initiative by stating, “For far too long, Miami artists have had to look beyond their own city for the training and opportunities they need to grow.

We’re changing that. Our goal is clear: to establish Miami as a national hub for immersive storytelling, while building lasting support networks for emerging and mid-career artists. At Juggerknot, we’ve always believed in using performance to transform spaces and perspectives.

With MII, we’re opening up our city as a canvas for new ideas, new artists, and new possibilities.”

Kathryn Garcia, Executive Director of Live Arts Miami, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Live Arts Miami has long championed performance that connects, challenges, and reinvents.

This intensive is a way to honor the extraordinary immersive work that’s already happening in Miami while welcoming a new generation of creators into conversation with leading voices from around the world.”

The Miami Immersive Intensive not only serves as an educational event but also stands as a platform for collaboration and creative empowerment within Miami’s arts ecosystem.

Whether participants are exploring immersive forms for the first time or seeking to deepen their existing practice, MII provides a valuable opportunity for learning, engagement, and building lasting connections.
