The parents of Konoa Wilson, a 16-year-old boy who was shot and killed by a San Diego police officer, have filed a lawsuit against the city and the officer involved, Daniel Gold.
The complaint was submitted to San Diego Superior Court on Friday, alleging that Wilson was at the Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego on January 28 when he became the target of gunfire from another individual.
Witness accounts and surveillance footage revealed that Wilson was attempting to escape from a shooter when he ran down a corridor toward Kettner Boulevard, where he encountered Officer Gold.
According to the lawsuit, Gold fired two shots at Wilson “instantly, without any warning,” striking the young boy in the upper body.
After the shooting, Wilson was rushed to UC San Diego Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
The incident occurred as Gold and another officer were responding to reports of an unrelated assault in the area.
