Nationwide ‘No Kings’ Protests Set for President Trump’s Birthday and Army’s 250th Anniversary

Opponents of President Donald Trump’s administration are gearing up for rallies across Boston and hundreds of other cities on Saturday. These protests coincide with the military parade in Washington D.C. celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary, as well as President Trump’s 79th birthday, which is also Flag Day.

Coined as the “No Kings” protests, the events are organized by the 50501 Movement. This national movement is comprised of everyday Americans advocating for democracy, opposing what they describe as authoritarianism under the Trump administration. The name 50501 symbolizes a collective call to action encompassing 50 states, 50 protests, and one unified movement.

Earlier protests this year have targeted President Trump and billionaire adviser Elon Musk, the former head of the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency. Protesters have been vocal about wanting to “dethrone” Trump, likening his conduct to that of a monarch rather than a democratically elected official.

The 50501 Movement’s website outlines serious concerns regarding the Trump administration, alleging that it has ignored court rulings, deported Americans, and actively engaged in actions that undermine civil rights, all while benefiting wealthy allies.

This Saturday’s protests, dubbed the No Kings Day of Defiance, aim to reject authoritarian governance, self-serving politics, and the military prioritization within the country’s democracy. The rallies are being held in response to the extravagant military parade that features military vehicles, aircraft, and thousands of soldiers, further escalating the celebration of Trump’s birthday and Flag Day.

“Our flag belongs to the people, not to President Trump,” proclaims the No Kings website. “On June 14th, we’ll demonstrate in spaces he is not present to assert our stance: no thrones, no crowns, no kings.”

Across the nation, nearly 2,000 locations will host protests, ranging from urban blocks to small towns and community parks. In Boston, the protest is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., coinciding with the Boston Pride for the People Parade. More than 100 additional events have been organized across the state of Massachusetts, with dozens more occurring in Connecticut, half a dozen in Rhode Island, and several dozen additional gatherings planned in New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. A map and full list of the protests can be found on the No Kings website.

Interestingly, no protests are planned in Washington D.C. itself, where the military parade will take place. The organizers maintain that they intend for their actions across the nation to be recognized as the authentic narrative of America on that day.

The No Kings protests are expected to draw people of all ages coming together to participate in speeches, marches, sign-waving, and celebration of American ideals. The movement is anchored by a firm commitment to nonviolent action. Participants are encouraged to de-escalate any confrontations with opposing groups and are instructed to refrain from bringing weapons of any kind to these events.

Organizers anticipate a significant turnout for the No Kings Day of Defiance, projecting it to be the largest single-day mobilization since President Trump took office. They are preparing for millions of demonstrators to emerge across all 50 states and commonwealths, underscoring the power of collective civic engagement and protest.
