Celebrate Cycling in Portland: Exciting Rides Happening This Weekend

As the heat wave finally recedes, cyclists in Portland are gearing up for an exciting weekend filled with bike rides.

From historical explorations to community celebrations, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

On Saturday, June 14th, Portlanders can participate in a variety of themed rides, starting with the Portland Streetcar History Ride at 11:00 am at King School Park in Northeast Portland.

This family-friendly 9-mile loop will provide a fascinating look into the history of streetcars and how they shaped the Northeast neighborhoods in the early 1900s.

Riders will have multiple stops for brief educational talks, making it a perfect outing for history buffs and families alike.

Next up is The Going Gallup, kicking off at 12:15 pm at NE Going & 17th.

Participants are encouraged to wear their best equine attire for a fun-filled ride along NE Going featuring horse-related games and silly competitions.

At 12:30 pm, the Tenant Union Celebration Ride will start at Reed College in Southeast Portland.

Hosted by the Revolutionary Bicycle Club, this ride aims to promote community engagement and educate participants on the importance of tenant unions and renters’ rights.

This is an excellent opportunity for tenants to learn about their rights and how to organize around them.

Later in the afternoon, families can join the Kidical Mass Frozen Yogurt Ride at 2:00 pm at Tanner Springs Park.

This unique ride encourages family biking in downtown areas, allowing participants to navigate busier streets while enjoying some delicious frozen yogurt.

It’s a fantastic chance to assert the visibility of cyclists in the city.

The excitement continues on Sunday, June 15th, starting with the Three-speed Day Tour at 10:00 am in Southeast Portland, with a final meeting location still to be announced.

Cyclists on trusty three-speed bikes will make their way to Oregon City, experiencing scenic views including the famous municipal elevator, and stopping for refreshments at a local café.

At 11:30 am, those interested in sporting events can hop on the Bike Bus to the Thorns, starting from The Athletic apparel shop in North Portland.

Led by local bike celebrity Jenna Bikes, this ride will take fans to Providence Park for an exciting soccer match.

For those seeking a bit of competitive flair, the Wheel of Fortune Game Show Ride begins at 2:30 pm at Irving Park.

This fun adventure, organized by Ride Safe PDX, promises plenty of games and prizes, all while promoting a safer bike scene in the community.

Finally, the evening will conclude with Zoobomb! at 8:00 pm at the Pyle in Southwest Portland.

Riders will take on the thrilling experience of riding mini bikes down the hills from the Zoo, led by one of the original Zoobombers, Coach Dan.

Whether you choose to join in on the fun, explore local history, or simply enjoy the company of fellow cyclists, there’s no shortage of opportunities to celebrate biking in Portland this weekend.
