The School District of Philadelphia has proudly announced that Ibrahim Soukouna, a standout student from CAPA High School, has been recognized as Senior of the Month.
Ibrahim’s dedication, creativity, and commitment to his community have made him a role model within the school. Over the past four years, he has captivated the hearts of both teachers and peers with his passion for film, media, and graphic design.
From the onset of his high school career, Ibrahim demonstrated a clear enthusiasm for filmmaking, photography, and media arts, a passion that has only intensified over time.
He actively engaged in film and media classes, leading to the creation of several exceptional short films and artworks, many of which have been showcased in local student film festivals.
Ibrahim’s achievements are not solely due to his artistic prowess but also his exceptional character.
He has adeptly balanced the demands of academics with his artistic endeavors, approaching each project he undertakes with enthusiasm and insight.
Open to critique and always supportive of his classmates, Ibrahim has earned deep respect from both his teachers and fellow students for his humility, leadership, and strong work ethic.
Throughout his time at CAPA, Ibrahim has embraced a multitude of roles—including director, writer, editor, producer, musician, and graphic designer.
He is currently one of the hosts for the daily morning announcements, is actively involved in the Yearbook Club, Photo/Video Club, and serves on the Cross Country Team.
Additionally, he manages the photo and video documentation for school performances and special events and has previously served as the cross country team manager for both 2022 and 2024.
As president of the Gaming Club, he also innovatively established CAPA’s annual Super Smash Brothers video game tournament.
Beyond the classroom, Ibrahim’s pursuit of excellence continues to flourish.
He participated in the Delphi Summer Teen Media Program in 2024, enhancing his technical skills in media production, and has plans to return in 2025.
Furthermore, he gained invaluable industry experience through his involvement with the Via Lux Youth Media Collective, which has enhanced his abilities and elevated his leadership within CAPA’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.
Academically, Ibrahim has also distinguished himself, receiving high honors with advanced scores on both written and performance sections of the NOCTI exam, and he will receive a certificate of completion from the Pennsylvania Office of CTE.
His portfolio is bolstered by an Adobe Photoshop industry certification, and he is currently pursuing additional certifications in Premiere and Illustrator.
Ibrahim has already been accepted to Temple University, where he intends to major in Film and Media Arts.
With grit and determination, he secured the scholarships necessary to pursue his dream, crafting a professional portfolio that reflects his unique voice and devotion to his craft.
What sets Ibrahim apart is not just his talent but his infectious joy for learning, generosity with his skills, and desire to spread beauty and positivity in the world.
He has created a lasting legacy at CAPA, and there is little doubt that he will make a significant impact in the media industry.
In expressing excitement over his nomination, Ibrahim stated, “I believe that I was nominated because my film teacher, Mr. Kaufman, took notice of dedication and drive to be creative.
I often stayed in Mr. Kaufman’s room during the nine-month production of my short film, SprinkleTaffy, either to use the cameras and equipment, edit the film, or seek advice on cinematography and action direction.”
Ibrahim continues to attribute much of his growth and inspiration to Mr. Kaufman, who serves as his Cinematography & Film Teacher.
“Mr. Kaufman has been a significant source of inspiration and drive for my love of filmmaking,” he explained.
Known for his creativity and supportiveness, he encourages students to be proactive in their goals while guiding them toward invaluable resources both within and outside the School District of Philadelphia.
Ibrahim credited Mr. Kaufman for facilitating his involvement in film programs such as the Summer Teen Media Program and Via Lux, and for teaching essential skills in Adobe products like Premiere and Photoshop.
When asked about something most people might not know about him, Ibrahim shared a remarkable anecdote.
“I was on PBS Kids! WHYY has a promotion encouraging children to read.
I was interviewed at six years old, selecting ‘Chicka Chicka Boom Boom’ by Bill Martin Jr. and Lois Elhert as my favorite book.”
In his leisure time away from school, he enjoys connecting with his family, searching for creative inspiration, and planning future projects, whether they are stories, films, or songs.
“Being at home allows me freedom and choice,” Ibrahim said.
“It’s a time for reflection on my week and personal growth beyond just being a creator.”
He values calling friends to collaborate on stories or play games together.
Ibrahim chose CAPA High School based on his mother’s recommendation, seeking a creative community of motivated teachers and students pursuing their passions.
He believes that such an environment fosters open discussions and would allow him to step outside of his comfort zone while expanding his creative abilities.
Ibrahim appreciates the collaborative atmosphere at CAPA, where observing others’ creativity inspires him to explore different talents.
In expressing a desire for improvement within the School District, Ibrahim suggested increasing funding for magnet schools like CAPA—a school that has faced recent administrative changes, declining enrollment, and a loss of essential teachers.
He emphasized the importance of retaining talented educators who are deeply passionate about their teaching roles.
“I hope to see our teachers remain without the fear of being transferred, enabling them to build meaningful relationships with students,” he remarked, highlighting that such support could significantly enhance the educational experience at CAPA.
In conclusion, Ibrahim Soukouna stands out not just for his artistic accomplishments but also for his character and leadership qualities.
As he prepares for his future at Temple University, all of us at CAPA eagerly anticipate the impact he will make in the world of media and beyond.
Congratulations, Ibrahim! We wish you all the best in your collegiate journey and career ahead!
