Known affectionately as the school’s ‘happy guy,’ Jason’s infectious energy and unwavering determination have made a profound impact on his peers and the larger school community. His mission revolves around spreading joy and laughter, making the school environment brighter for everyone around him.
Throughout his demanding senior year, Jason has emerged as a symbol of cheerfulness, resilience, and genuine motivation. His friends frequently highlight his remarkable ability to uplift those in his vicinity, showcasing the essence of camaraderie and support, characteristics essential for success.
In his role as team captain for the track and field squad, Jason exemplifies leadership. He has inspired his teammates, cultivating strong bonds through their rigorous training sessions. We had the opportunity to ask Jason a series of insightful questions to better understand his perspectives and experiences. When asked why he thinks he was nominated as Senior of the Month, Jason attributed the recognition to the strong support network surrounding him.
“I believe I was nominated as Senior of the month because of the people that I have around me. I have many supporters that have gone out of their way to support me, my athletics, academics, and passions,” he explained. “I’ve made it one of my goals to live up to that support by continuously uplifting those around me.”
Jason shared his relationship with John Taylor-Baranik, affectionately known as Mr. TB, highlighting the significant role his track coach and former AP Seminar teacher has played in his journey. “He’s really been there for me every step of the way. In track, he’s pushed me athletically and encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, emphasizing my role as a leader and captain on the team,” Jason noted.
Part of that leadership experience included staying on top of his academic work—a skill Mr. TB helped him develop, which proved invaluable during the college application process.
Another interesting aspect of Jason’s personality is his artistic side, an element that may surprise some. “I am a very artsy person as well. I’m not just a jock that can keep up in a classroom. I’m a big jazz guy, a huge Louis Armstrong and The Hornheads fan. For me, it’s all about the horns and the drums,” he revealed.
He also expressed his renewed interest in reading, which flourished thanks to audiobooks that have made literature more accessible. “I was in the library every week up until high school, now though the big thing that’s gotten me back into it is audiobooks. I think they’re great.” Furthermore, he shared his aspirations to perform live poetry, recalling his earlier passion for writing during his freshman and sophomore years.
When asked about his hobbies outside of school, Jason conveyed a deep love for learning through various media. “I enjoy finding things out honestly. I’m big into all sorts of media like shows, animation, comics, and movies. I love a good video essay about character development or subtle symbolism in a project,” he stated.
Jason’s choice to attend Carver High School was influenced by a family connection, as his godmother had previously attended and highly recommended it. He expressed no regrets about his decision. “The best part about it is that they care. It’s full of extremely passionate teachers and advisors that are fully willing to help with close to anything.”
When reflecting on improvements the School District could make, he pointed out the need for more information about free resources available to students. “I honestly wish there was even more information about different free resources that are available,” Jason advocated.
He highlighted the examples of library cards providing access to numerous free audiobooks, emphasizing that while the district does promote several free opportunities, increased outreach could benefit students greatly.
As Jason Noel approaches the next phase of his journey, Carver High School celebrates not only his accomplishments but also his infectious spirit that has brought warmth and motivation to many.
