T.D. Jakes and Oprah Winfrey came together at the Winspear Opera House on Thursday for an engaging hour-long conversation that tackled various important topics including artificial intelligence, the role of faith in decision-making, and the latest rumors regarding their connections to Sean “Diddy” Combs.
This event was part of the Good Soil Forum, a three-day conference organized by Jakes, who is the founding pastor of The Potter’s House, aimed at empowering minority business owners.
The evening was filled with energy, as the audience began the night dancing to a DJ’s selection of classic songs. Attendees from various Black fraternities and sororities excitedly participated in a roll call before Jakes and Winfrey took the stage to a warm standing ovation.
Winfrey mentioned her reluctance to participate in events like this, emphasizing that her decision was rooted in her admiration for Jakes and a desire to share her faith.
She expressed her belief in the power of her faith, declaring,
“Because I am God’s child, all things are possible.”
Winfrey also shared a personal story about finding comfort at The Potter’s House during a difficult period in her career, recalling how a sermon from Jakes helped her regain her focus and trust in divine support.
The conversation then shifted to Jakes’ inquiries about Winfrey’s journey as a businesswoman. They discussed how to handle personal relationships amidst success and the importance of knowing when to step back from professional roles.
Artificial intelligence became a focal point of their discussion, with Jakes highlighting its life-saving potential during his recent heart surgery.
He remarked,
“They went in through my arteries in my arm and cleared out my heart while I was awake because of AI.”
However, he noted concerns about the automation and its implications for the job market.
Winfrey shared her misgivings about AI, particularly its potential to deceive people through deepfake technology.
She recounted a shocking incident involving an AI-generated image, stating,
“There’s a picture of me naked in bed with Puffy. I saw it myself.”
Clarifying her relationship with Combs, she humorously remarked,
“First of all I’ve never been near a Puff party.”
Winfrey added,
“Anybody who knows me knows if there is a party, I’m the first one out.”
Jakes joined in, commenting on public intrigue in salacious stories. He recalled a brief visit to Combs’ residence, highlighting how something as simple as a birthday greeting spiraled into wild rumors of a romance.
As the evening came to a close, Winfrey likened the entrepreneurs in the audience to seeds planted in good soil, encouraging them to nurture their ideas and envision future success.
“One day you gon’ look up and you are standing in a forest,” she inspired, leading to a round of applause from the audience.
