In a heartfelt and unique experience leading up to Father’s Day, U.S. Navy Senior Chief Dan Reyes had the rare opportunity to serve alongside his daughter, Reserve Officer Training Corps Midshipman Gabriella Reyes, aboard the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier.
Their eight-day deployment in the South China Sea was a dream come true for Dan Reyes, who originally hails from Miami, Florida, and is currently stationed in San Diego. Gabriella is a junior at Florida State University and is following in her father’s footsteps by pursuing a career in the Navy.
The Navy typically has policies preventing family members from serving together to avert any potential favoritism or conflicts of interest. However, this duo was fortunate to share this remarkable experience, which Dan Reyes described as one that he never imagined in his years of service. He expressed his happiness in being able to share insights about their deployment with Gabriella and her fellow midshipmen.
