Summer Celebrations and Pride Festivals: Weekend Activities in Los Angeles

As the summer days roll in, this last weekend of June offers a plethora of community activities, sports events, and celebrations, inviting Angelenos to soak up the sun and enjoy everything that summer has to offer.

To kick things off, Culver City’s Ivy Station is hosting a delightful summer movie night on the lawn, featuring a screening of the beloved 1980s film, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Patrons are encouraged to bring blankets and low-back chairs for a cozy outdoor experience, with the lawn opening at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starting at 8:30 p.m. This event is free for the community and can be easily accessed via the E Line to Culver City Station.

On Saturday evening, Culver City will transform into a vibrant Pride celebration with the Culver City Pride Ride and Festival at Town Plaza.

This joyous event promises entertainment including DJs, drag performers, and inspiring community speakers. A community bike ride will kick off the festivities at 4 p.m., followed by the festival from 6 to 10 p.m. Metro services are available, with the E Line transporting attendees to Culver City Station.

Simultaneously, KCRW Summer Nights will be taking place at LA Plaza del Cultura y Artes, closely following the opening of the exhibit A Great Day in East L.A.: Celebrando the Eastside Sound.

Festival-goers can enjoy live performances by the Souldies rock group, The Altons, along with a roster of special guest DJs from 6 to 11 p.m. This experience is also free and accessible via multiple Metro lines including the A, B, and E Lines to Los Angeles Union Station, or via the Metro J Line bus.

For those in the San Fernando Valley, pride festivities conclude this weekend with a unity march starting at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Gault Street, leading to the Van Nuys Civic Center.

The Valley Pride Festival offers a family-friendly atmosphere filled with live performances, community resources, food trucks, games, and a marketplace, commencing after the march at 1 p.m.

On both Saturday and Sunday, the Santa Monica Pier 360 Beach Festival will take beach life celebrations to new heights.

This exciting two-day festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. is designed for all ages and features everything from live music and a beer garden to exhilarating competitions such as beach volleyball and lifeguard challenges.

Attendees can revel in fun activities like a roller rink and kids’ obstacle course, alongside impressive sandcastle displays. Access to this free festival is available through the E Line to Downtown Santa Monica Station.

Sunday brings additional excitement with LAFC soccer action as the Vancouver Whitecaps FC visit Los Angeles to face off against LAFC at BMO Stadium.

Fans are invited to support the home team, accessible via connections to the E Line at Expo Park/USC or by using the J Line bus to 37th St/USC. Tips for a seamless match day trip will help fans enjoy the event even more.

Furthermore, the LA Sparks will host the Chicago Sky in a basketball showdown at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday.

Following a previous match, fans are eager to see if the Sky can even the score against the Sparks. Access to the arena is convenient with the A or E Line leading to Pico Station, just a short walk away. The Metro J Line bus also provides nearby access to the arena.
