La Azteca Tortilleria, a beloved institution in Boyle Heights, is preparing for a significant change as it relocates after more than 50 years at its original site on Cesar Chavez Boulevard.
The restaurant, renowned for its impressive flour tortilla-making operation and signature chile relleno burritos, will officially cease operations at its historic location on June 13, moving just under two miles away to its second location on Atlantic and Beverly Boulevards.
Although this move does not signal a complete closure, it marks the end of an era for many local patrons who have cherished La Azteca’s rich history.
Owned by Cynthia Hernandez and her parents, Candy and Juan Villa, who acquired the restaurant in 2010, La Azteca has garnered a reputation for its long lines and authentic offerings.
The Villa family opened the new location earlier in 2023 after learning of the landlord’s plans to potentially sell the original property, prompting the crucial decision to maintain the business’s legacy elsewhere.

In a preview of what’s to come, Jaca Social Club will present a tasting menu experience in a series of pop-up events every Friday and Saturday throughout the summer, with tickets available at $250 per person and bookings through Resy.
Excitement is also brewing around the anticipated return of a classic Los Angeles dish—Original Hollywood Chili—crafted by chefs Michael Montilla and Brad Salzman.
The duo has secured the original recipe from the Chasen family, with the dish becoming available for a la carte pre-orders on its dedicated website starting July 3.
Chasen’s, which was a staple in Beverly Hills for decades before closing in 2000, will have its renowned chili reimagined and served to nostalgic patrons.
Adding to the summer festivities, Good Boy and Friends will host their fourth annual natural wine block party on June 28 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Arts District.
Tickets are available for $59, granting attendees access to more than 40 wines from various producers across the country.
For those seeking a premium experience, VIP tickets for $149 offer added perks such as priority check-in, a wine tote, and additional giveaways.
Local vendors like Ditroit, Burger She Wrote, and Simón Seafood will also be present, providing delicious bites to complement the wine selections.
Finally, for food lovers and community supporters, the Infatuation’s EEEEEatscon will return to Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar the weekend of June 28 and June 29.
Shake Shack is collaborating with the Los Angeles Fire Department to create a special burger—topped with “Fire Engine” red pepper relish—where a portion of sales will benefit the fire department foundation.
Additionally, all net revenues from the weekend will be matched by Chase and donated to a local organization supporting small businesses, ensuring a day full of culinary delights for a good cause.
