The United States Marine Corps is gearing up for a significant celebration as it invites the city of Chicago to participate in Marine Week Chicago, scheduled to take place from July 10 to 13, 2025.
This event is part of the year-long festivities commemorating the Corps’ 250th birthday, an occasion that reflects on two and a half centuries of history, tradition, and service to the nation.
Throughout Marine Week, members of the Marine Corps will honor veterans and showcase their commitment to excellence within the community.
This week-long series of events will feature a variety of activities designed to engage the Chicagoland area, with performances from the renowned Quantico Marine Band and demonstrations by the Silent Drill Platoon, among other activities.
Public workouts with Marines will be offered daily, allowing attendees of all ages to participate in fitness exercises tailored for strength, endurance, and coordination.
The event kick-offs with an opening ceremony at the Plaza of the Americas near the Chicago River on Thursday, July 10, at 11 am, where the Quantico Marine Band is expected to perform and key remarks will be given by Colonel J.J. Wilson, along with other dignitaries.
In the evening, the Quantico Marine Rock Band will put on a performance at the RocHaus Music Venue in West Dundee, Illinois, further celebrating the contributions of the Marine Corps.
From Thursday to Sunday, attendees can join the Marines for ‘Morning PT’ sessions at Lake View Park, with daily colors ceremonies happening both morning and evening at the Plaza of the Americas.
Moreover, between July 11 and 13, a large display showcasing Marine Corps equipment will be available at Pioneer Court along N. Michigan Ave, where the public can interact with Marines, try on gear, and even participate in pull-up challenges.
For a more solemn remembrance, daily wreath-laying ceremonies will occur at 9 am at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation in various historical conflicts.
On Friday, July 11, attendees can also engage with Marine Corps recruiters at the Windy City Smokeout, a popular Country Music and BBQ Festival outside of the United Center.
Additionally, fans of lacrosse can enjoy a match featuring the Marine Corps Color Guard at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martine Stadium in Geneva, Illinois, with the game starting at 7 pm.
The celebrations will ramp up on Saturday, July 12, with the ‘Rockin’ for our Vets’ concert at Cantigny Park’s Parade Field in Wheaton, Illinois. Here, the Quantico Marine Band, the Marine Corps Color Guard, and the Silent Drill Platoon will perform, alongside Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band, in support of local veterans and their families.
The grand finale of Marine Week Chicago will be the commemoration ceremony on Sunday, July 13, marking the Corps’ 250th Birthday. This significant event will take place at the Ferrara Candy Wave Wall Stage at Navy Pier at 2 pm, featuring performances from the Silent Drill Platoon and a ceremonial cake-cutting.
The Quantico Marine Rock Band will also take the stage later that day from 5 pm to 7 pm at the same venue.
