Apple unveiled its much-anticipated iPhone 17 series on Tuesday, introducing a range of enhancements including prolonged battery life and improved camera capabilities, as stated by the company.
Among the notable introductions was the iPhone 17 Air, which Apple claimed is the ‘thinnest iPhone ever’ with a sleek, redesigned form factor.
The new lineup consists of four models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Retail prices are set at $799 for the iPhone 17, $999 for the iPhone 17 Air, $1,099 for the iPhone Pro, and $1,199 for the iPhone Pro Max.
All four models are now available for pre-order and will officially launch in stores on September 19.
The iPhone 17 series features a dual-lens camera system comprising an impressive 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, alongside a secondary lens with varying megapixel specifications based on the model.
An upgraded front-facing camera enables users to capture landscape selfies while the phone is held vertically, eliminating the need for a horizontal grip.
Powered by the new A19 and A19 Pro silicon chips, the iPhone 17 series promises enhanced processing capabilities, along with a visually expanded display by reducing the device’s border size.
Each model comes with a default memory capacity of 256 gigabytes, ensuring ample space for users.
Enhanced integration of Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI-driven software, further distinguishes the new models.
In a remarkable development, the iPhone 17 Pro Max features innovative battery technology that extends its battery life to the longest duration of any iPhone to date.
Apple promoted the launch event with the tagline ‘awe dropping’ and also unveiled new iterations of the Apple Watch and AirPods.
Earlier this June, Apple had expanded its artificial intelligence capabilities and introduced a new design interface across its entire product line.
The upcoming iOS 26 operating system will introduce features such as real-time language translation in iMessages and advanced image identification.
The company disclosed plans to make additional AI capabilities accessible for developers, enabling them to create software powered by artificial intelligence for Apple devices.
This product launch comes at a pivotal time for Apple, which faces increasing competition from rivals offering AI-enhanced solutions.
In a recent estimate, Apple projected that tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump could cost the company over $1 billion in the current quarter.
Prior to the conference on Tuesday, Apple’s stock had dropped by 6% this year alone.
During an earnings call in May, CEO Tim Cook revealed that the bulk of iPhones sold in the U.S. are now being produced in India to mitigate tariff impacts.
However, the situation became complicated in August when Trump introduced 50% tariffs on goods from India, criticizing its ongoing purchase of Russian oil amidst the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
In an effort to foster cooperative ties with the administration, Cook has made multiple public appearances at the White House, including when Trump exempted phones, computers, and chips from reciprocal tariffs on Chinese imports.
