This weekend, the Backstreet Boys made a significant impact in Las Vegas, with Howie Dorough taking the lead at Hofbrauhaus and three of his bandmates gracing The Golden Tiki for a unique ceremony.
The bustling atmosphere was not short of excitement, as Dorough hosted “Howie Eatz,” where fans had the opportunity to interact with him in an intimate setting. Held every Saturday until August 23, fans paid $400 for the chance to chat with the beloved BSB member and enjoy traditional German cuisine. The event captured approximately 100 fans who gathered eagerly in the back beer garden to share their admiration for Dorough.
“I know that every Saturday’s gonna really be a long day, from 11 o’clock to do this, and then I normally go to church after here to be thankful for everything I’m blessed with,” Dorough said during a break from the festivities. His Saturdays are filled from morning until late at night, often stretching until 3 a.m. following his scheduled performance at the Sphere and various after parties.
When asked if the success of their current engagements has prompted discussions of extending their show, Dorough expressed excitement about their unique opportunity. “We haven’t even talked about that. But we would love to. I mean, this is the best gig in the world,’ he stated. “I really think every artist is going to wanna put this on their bucket list to do one day. I’m pinching myself on stage when I’m up there; it’s a true, out-of-body experience for me.”
In a ceremony on Sunday, Dorough’s bandmates Nick Carter, AJ McLean and Brian Littrell participated in a shrunken-head tribute at The Golden Tiki, a quirky venue known for its unusual honors. Since its inception a decade ago, The Golden Tiki has bestowed over 260 of these unique figures crafted by Wyoming artist Terry Barr to various entertainment personalities.
The Backstreet Boys appeared both amused and honored during this unusual ceremony. Littrell humorously remarked, “In the entertainment business, you worry about your head getting too big. Now, I never have to worry about it.”
The band’s success at the Sphere has left Littrell in awe. “It’s over the moon — or over the Sphere,” he exclaimed after the event. “It’s state-of-the-art. Who wouldn’t want to play it?”
The buzz around their Sphere shows has attracted other notable stars as well. On Saturday, John Mayer of Dead & Company, who contributed to their elaborate video presentation, and Usher, another Strip resident headliner, were spotted at the venue.
In a fun fashion statement, Carter showed up at the tiki event wearing what appeared to be an authentic MLB jersey, sporting the name and number 8, referencing the late Expos and Mets player Gary Carter.
With all the excitement, Dorough’s multifaceted Saturdays blend fan interaction, spiritual gratitude, and performance. He acknowledges that keeping up the energy at 51 is a challenge, but the enthusiasm of the fans motivates him. “Mentally, just thinking about doing this at 51 years old — is that the same energy that I had when I was 20 years old?” Dorough reflected with a laugh.
In the world of entertainment, every artist understands the grind required to maintain their status; thus events like these become vital for connecting with fans, especially in the vibrant atmosphere of Las Vegas. Dorough and his bandmates remain committed to delivering memorable experiences, blending music, fan engagement, and light-hearted humor in their unique performances.
In addition to the excitement generated by the Backstreet Boys, the Las Vegas entertainment scene is buzzing with excitement for other events. The great vocal impressionist and Las Vegas icon Bob Anderson will return to the Italian American Club Showroom on Saturday for a dinner and show, performing classic tunes reminiscent of legendary artists, showcasing the richness of the city’s diverse entertainment landscape.
As fans anticipate Anderson’s return and the continuation of the Backstreet Boys’ lively engagements, Las Vegas truly embodies a haven for those seeking unforgettable experiences amidst the glitz and glamour.
