The Old Globe has officially revealed the cast and creative team for its upcoming world premiere of the musical comedy, Huzzah! This exciting show boasts a book, music, and lyrics crafted by Olivier Award winners and Tony Award nominees Nell Benjamin and Laurence O’Keefe, who are known for their work on notable productions such as Legally Blonde, Mean Girls, and Bat Boy.
Huzzah! will be staged under the expert direction of Annie Tippe, a Lortel Award winner recognized for her innovative work, particularly Off Broadway’s Octet.
Set against the backdrop of a Renaissance Faire, Huzzah! is described as a comedic tale where two sisters—a princess and an insurance worker—must reconcile their differences to prevent their father’s fair from going bankrupt, all while navigating hilarious mishaps involving mead-fueled blazes.
Starting September 13, the six-week limited engagement is expected to bring laughter and joy to audiences until its conclusion on October 19, 2025. The official opening night is scheduled for Thursday, September 25. The performances will take place on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage at The Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center.
Tickets for the much-anticipated show will be made available to the public starting Friday, August 1, at 12 p.m. PT through TheOldGlobe.org.
In discussing the musical, Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein expressed his excitement, stating that Huzzah! represents a peak in the Globe’s 2025 season with its blend of humor and heartfelt moments. He described the story as one focused on the trials faced by two sisters and their aging father managing a struggling Renaissance Faire, infused with quirky characters that reflect the unique charm of Ren Fairs.
Edelstein highlighted the collaboration between Benjamin and O’Keefe as a standout aspect of the production, describing their partnership as one that conjures a world filled with vibrancy and emotion in their latest musical effort.
The principal cast comprises a variety of talented performers, featuring Josh Breckenridge as Inigo Johnson, who is known for his work in The Old Globe’s Ebenezer Scrooge’s BIG San Diego Christmas Show and Broadway’s Swept Away.
Anthony Chatmon II, recognized for his performances in Broadway’s Hadestown and Be More Chill, takes on the role of Gareth, while Peyton Crim portrays Wayland Smith, known for appearances in The Play That Goes Wrong and Finian’s Rainbow.
Additional key roles include Matt DaSilva as Troubadour Tim, Cailen Fu as Kate Mirandola, Allison Guinn as Lady Eve, and Liisi LaFontaine portraying Gwen Mirandola.
Mike Millan features as Juan Diego Santiago de Fuensalida, Kevin Pariseau as Sir John Thomas Morningwood, and Leo Roberts as Sir Rowland Prowd. Kate Shindle will be seen as Anne Bonny the Pirate Queen, and Lance Arthur Smith portrays Johnny Mirandola, rounding out a cast of 21 performers.
The ensemble for Huzzah! includes notable talents such as Michael Cusimano, Beth Stafford Laird, Michelle Lauto, Tatiana Lofton, and Aaron Michael Ray, contributing to the dynamic fabric of the show.
For added versatility, swings Berto Fernández, Max Antonio Gonzalez, Sophia LaRosh, and Katheryne Penny are also part of the production team, ensuring the shows run smoothly.
The creative team for the world premiere also includes choreography by Katie Spelman, orchestrations by Ben Green, music direction by Alejandro Senior, and supervision by Mary-Mitchell Campbell. Scenic design will be orchestrated by Todd Rosenthal, with costume design by Haydee Zelideth and lighting by Jeff Croiter.
Sound design will be delivered by Connor Wang, while Earon Chew Nealy takes charge of wig design. The production will also feature fight direction by Jacob Grigolia-Rosenbaum and voice and dialect coaching by Emmelyn Thayer.
Hayley Goldenberg serves as associate director and Kelsey Burns as associate choreographer, further supporting the production’s dynamic creative vision.
The casting for the musical has been handled by The Telsey Office with Bethany Knox, CSA, and Jimmy Larkin assisting, while Michael Passaro will oversee production stage management.
