Houston Weather Forecast: Peak of Summer Heat with Rain Chances Ahead

As August approaches, Houston enters what is historically known as the depths of summer.

From July 29 to August 12, the region experiences its highest average temperatures, typically reaching 96 degrees.

While the city can see temperatures soar into the triple digits as early as June and as late as September, this two-week span is recognized as the hottest period of the year.

However, there’s a silver lining for Houston residents—recent forecasts suggest that increasing rain chances over the weekend may help mitigate the oppressive summer heat.

Looking ahead to the immediate weather, temperatures are expected to rise in the upper 90s in inland areas and lower 90s along the coast today.

Monday’s weather will transition from the recent rounds of showers that led to flooding just to the east of downtown Houston.

As high pressure settles over the area, sunny skies are anticipated, but there remains a slight chance for scattered showers in the late afternoon or evening, particularly near the sea breeze.

Tonight’s temperatures are set to remain sultry, hovering in the mid-70s.

On Tuesday, expect the hottest day of the week, with plentiful sunshine and high temperatures maintaining in the upper 90s across most regions.

Humidity levels may be high, but forecasts indicate slightly lower dewpoints, potentially reducing the oppressive feel of the heat.

Rain chances will be minimal, and another warm night is anticipated, with lows once again in the mid-70s.

By Wednesday, high pressure will continue to influence Houston’s weather.

This should lead to mostly sunny skies, maintaining high temperatures predominantly in the upper 90s.

However, tropical moisture is expected to pool to the east over the Gulf, resulting in increased rain chances as the week progresses.

Forecasters suggest a small possibility of isolated showers later in the day.

As the workweek wraps up, both Thursday and Friday are projected to retain partly to mostly sunny conditions with high temperatures settling in the mid-90s.

A low-pressure system is moving toward Texas from the Gulf, though the likelihood of it developing into a tropical depression remains low and not a primary concern.

This system will bring heightened moisture levels along the coast and elevate rain chances to around 30 to 50 percent for both days.

Looking to the weekend, a pattern of elevated rain chances is expected to persist, with a 50 percent chance of showers each day.

Despite the potential for rain, there should also be periods of sunshine on both Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures during the weekend are anticipated to be slightly cooler, with some areas possibly reaching into the lower 90s.

Rainfall accumulations are expected to be modest, with forecasts estimating approximately 0.5 inch of rain across most areas, though localized heavier precipitation may occur.

As Houston navigates through the heart of summer, the weather this August is shaping up to be less intense than the typical sweltering heat.

The following week hints at a continued chance of showers on both Monday and possibly Tuesday, before the high pressure starts to take more control.

At this point, temperatures are likely to continue fluctuating in the 90s, avoiding the extreme highs surpassing 100 degrees.

On a broader note, the tropics appear to be relatively quiet for the foreseeable future, providing a welcomed reprieve as August approaches.

This calm is particularly significant since the upcoming month traditionally marks the beginning of peak hurricane season for Texas.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant as meteorologists will closely monitor developments in the tropics over the next two months.
