Crack Taco Shop, famed for its exceptional taco fillings, is now inviting early risers to indulge in breakfast.
A standout item, the ‘Cardiff Crack’ Tri-tip, is so delicious it boasts its own Facebook page, highlighting the shop’s commitment to quality meat sourced from Seaside Market in Cardiff-by-the-Sea.
Owner Ron Abbo explained, “We purchase our Tri-tip twice a week. We marinate it in a burgundy pepper marinade on-site, then tumble the meat to inject the seasoning. We let it sit for a day to tenderize before cooking it in an oven and searing it fresh. It’s not barbecued.”
This dedication to freshness extends to all menu items at Crack Taco Shop, including the tortillas, which are pressed and cooked to order, alongside house-made guacamole, pico de gallo, and salsas.
The most popular items on the menu, according to Abbo, include the beloved crack taco, al pastor taco, and the IPA battered fish taco.
Beyond these tacos, the extensive menu features Tri-tip in burritos, quesadillas, nachos, fries, and even breakfast burritos and bowls.
For those seeking something different, the shop offers birria, traditionally made with goat meat but now commonly featuring beef stewed with earthy spices and served in fresh tortillas with a dipping sauce.
Keto and vegetarian burritos round out the offerings, catering to a wide array of dietary preferences.
Salad enthusiasts are also well catered for, with four choices, including the Chipotle Salad with roasted corn and spring mix and the Roast Pepper Caesar Salad on a bed of romaine, both of which can be customized with various meats.
For breakfast, Crack Taco Shop serves patrons daily from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., and customers can call ahead to pre-order their meals for takeout or dining in.
The breakfast special includes a choice of two eggs, two pancakes, breakfast potatoes, and a selection of either two bacon strips or two sausage links.
In addition to this, the menu features a variety of breakfast burritos and chilaquiles.
With the exciting range of offerings available, it’s no wonder that Crack Taco Shop is seeing growth.
Last year, the business successfully opened a new location in Seaport Village and has plans for two more, in Coronado and Encinitas.
Abbo emphasizes the focus on quality, service, and great food as the foundation of their expansion.
“Some people say that since I’m not Mexican, I can’t make good food. But I say, my chefs are of Mexican descent and they’re the ones cooking. We have a great team that works well together. We keep a positive attitude and have great communication,” Abbo stated.
Crack Taco Shop is located at 4242 Camino del Rio North.
