Lori Vallow Daybell Sentenced to Additional Life Terms for Murder Conspiracies

Lori Vallow Daybell, known as the ‘Doomsday mom,’ received two additional life sentences on Friday for her roles in murder conspiracies, adding to her existing life sentences related to the deaths of her two youngest children and a romantic rival.

An Arizona judge ordered that these new sentences be served consecutively, not only to each other but also to her previous sentences arising from her Idaho case.

Judge Justin Beresky delivered a poignant statement during the sentencing, calling out Vallow Daybell for the impact of her actions, saying, ‘You’ve shattered lives, you’ve undermined trust, you’ve sowed fear in the hearts of many.’

As she was escorted out of the courtroom, a voice rang out, shouting, ‘Lori, rot in prison!’

In April, Vallow Daybell was convicted of conspiring to kill her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, in July 2019.

During trial, she insisted that her brother had acted in self-defense when he shot Charles during a family conflict.

Her brother, Alex Cox, who died later that year from a pulmonary embolism, was never charged in the incident.

Shortly after that conviction, she was found guilty of conspiring to kill her niece’s ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux, in a shooting that occurred outside his home in Gilbert, Arizona.

Boudreaux testified that someone shot at him from a Jeep, which he recognized as belonging to a family member.

During her trial for this second conspiracy, Vallow Daybell once again represented herself and maintained that she had no involvement in the shooting.

Friday’s sentencing marked the culmination of a lengthy and complex legal saga that intertwined themes of doomsday beliefs, spiritual warfare, and familial betrayal.

Vallow Daybell’s current husband, Chad Daybell, is known for his work as a doomsday author.

Prior to the sentencing, several family members took the opportunity to address the court, providing emotional victim impact statements that highlighted the devastation wrought by Vallow Daybell’s actions.

Colby Ryan, son of Charles Vallow and Lori Vallow Daybell, spoke virtually, reflecting on the loss of his father and the betrayal he felt.

Describing his experiences, Ryan noted, ‘Starting six years ago, the horror began.’

He recounted how he believed his mother’s claims about his father’s alleged infidelity, which led him to sever ties with his father, a decision he now deeply regrets.

Ryan remembered his father as a ‘very generous man,’ underscoring the personal void left by his father’s untimely death.

Larry Woodcock, the grandfather of one of Vallow Daybell’s younger children, expressed his outrage in court, calling her choices ‘murderous.’

He stated passionately, ‘You murdered Charles, the best thing that was ever in your life, for your delusional, narcissistic ways.’

Charles Vallow’s sister, Susan, became visibly emotional while speaking about her brother’s death, describing it as ‘a deliberate act of evil and self-seeking financial gain.’

Her tearful words conveyed the continuing pain inflicted upon her family, attributing the schism and heartache directly to Vallow Daybell’s greed.

Brandon Boudreaux, the target of the shooting, recounted his ongoing struggles with depression and anxiety in the aftermath of the attack.

He stated, ‘Had this heinous crime succeeded, my children would have been left to face a lifetime of grief.’

Despite the harrowing circumstances, Boudreaux expressed forgiveness towards Vallow Daybell, which he believes is integral to his own healing.

His wife, Jenny, added that the shooting has irrevocably altered their lives, introducing a constant sense of fear.

Boudreaux’s family members echoed this sentiment of fear, with his sister Desirae describing a period of ‘constant worry’ that followed the attack.

In 2023, Vallow Daybell was convicted by an Idaho jury for the murders of her two children, Tylee Ryan and Joshua ‘JJ’ Vallow, and for conspiring to kill her current husband’s first wife, Tammy Daybell.

Chad Daybell was previously convicted for the same murders and sentenced to death.

Vallow Daybell’s sentencing is seen as a significant closure for the many lives affected by her actions.
