Philip Fortenberry and Elisa Fiorillo to Perform at The Classics with Class

Renowned pianist Philip Fortenberry and celebrated singer Elisa Fiorillo are set to grace the stage at Myron’s at The Smith Center on August 20 for a delightful concert titled The Classics with Class.

The performance promises to be a captivating celebration of timeless music from legendary artists, including Barbra Streisand, Eydie Gorme, Judy Garland, and Julie Andrews.

In an intimate setting, audiences can expect to experience the exquisite piano artistry of Philip alongside Elisa’s masterful vocals.

The concert will also feature talented musicians such as Carlos Elorza on bass, Don Meoli from Jersey Boys on drums, and Ramiro Nasello on trumpet, ensuring a captivating musical experience.

Attendees will be treated to iconic songs like “Big Spender,” “Miss Otis Regrets,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” and “All I Ask of You” from Phantom of the Opera.

Furthermore, Philip plans to perform Chopin’s Etude as a tribute to Elisa’s father, a concert pianist who had the honor of studying under the legendary Vladimir Horowitz.

Philip Fortenberry, who has spent over 60 years perfecting his craft, is regarded as one of the most sought-after pianists on Broadway.

He has received the esteemed “Ghostlight Award” for “Best Musician on Broadway” and has dazzled audiences on some of the most prestigious stages, including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and The White House.

His experience includes performing in ten Broadway shows and eight national tours, with notable productions such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Ragtime, and The Lion King.

Philip is also known for his versatile performing skills, which allowed him to serve as the hand and body double for actor Michael Douglas in the HBO biopic Behind the Candelabra.

In his own words, Philip describes the essence of the classics: “What makes the classics timeless is a substantial lyric paired with unforgettable melodies and harmonic structures that are easily recognized.

They evoke an emotional response from listeners as well as performers that make us almost need to hear them, to experience them time and time again.”

Elisa Fiorillo, an acclaimed vocalist and lyricist, gained fame following her remarkable solo career and notable performances alongside Prince and his band, The New Power Generation, with whom she toured internationally until 2016.

Most recently, she shared the stage with Josh Groban at Caesars Palace, further solidifying her place in the music industry alongside several Billboard-charting songwriting credits.

Elisa’s career took off at age 15 after winning the 1985 Star Search talent show, which led to a recording contract with Chrysalis Records.

Her collaboration with John “Jellybean” Benitez brought her international acclaim through the hit song “Who Found Who.”

With three albums to her name, she has also ventured into directing television series and voicing anime characters, showcasing her multifaceted talent.

Elisa is currently engaged in multiple recording projects, blending iconic covers with original songs that highlight the passion and emotion defining her extraordinary career.
