Just hours after the Texas Senate approved redrawn congressional maps, those maps are facing legal challenges in federal court from a group known as the ‘Gonzales Plaintiffs.’
The plaintiffs are contesting the map as part of an ongoing lawsuit regarding the redistricting process that followed the 2020 census.
Although the new map has not yet been signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott, he expressed readiness to sign House Bill 4 earlier this morning.
The court filing lays out four primary challenges to the redrawn maps.
First, the complaint alleges intentional vote dilution, arguing that the new congressional maps constitute intentional discrimination against minority voters.
