New Additions in Far Northwest Austin: Dining, Housing, and Healthcare

Far Northwest Austin is experiencing a surge in new dining, housing, and healthcare options, making it an exciting time for residents.

The area welcomes Mostacho Arroz Chino, a food truck that opened its doors in June.

Specializing in Venezuelan-style Chinese fried rice, the truck offers a variety of fillings, including shrimp, chicken, and pork, all seasoned to perfection with soy sauce, green onions, and bean sprouts.

In addition to the fried rice, customers can enjoy savory spring rolls filled with Venezuelan cheese, cabbage, and ham, as well as sweet varieties.

Those with a sweet tooth can also find packaged Venezuelan candy bars like Cocosette, Cri Cri, and Samba.

The food truck is located at 7221 McNeil Drive, Austin, and is active on Instagram at @mostachoatx.

In the realm of healthcare, the newly opened Veterinarian Regional Orthopedic Center (VROC) is making waves with its specialized offerings.

Opened on August 11, this state-of-the-art facility focuses on orthopedic surgery for cats and dogs, addressing issues related to bones, joints, and spines.

Spanning 17,500 square feet, VROC features advanced imaging systems, four operating rooms equipped with minimally invasive tools, and a comprehensive rehabilitation center that includes underwater treadmills and therapeutic equipment.

Their aim is to minimize surgical trauma and accelerate recovery through effective pain management protocols.

You can find VROC at 13805 N FM 620, Austin, and more information is available at www.vroc.vet.

Another culinary delight in the area is Wicked Snow, which opened its doors on August 14.

This establishment brings the flavors of Korea with its bingsu, a shaved ice dessert available in flavors like strawberry matcha, black sesame, coffee, taro, and berry.

Wicked Snow also serves croffles (a combination of croissants and waffles) in enticing flavors like cinnamon, chocolate, and strawberry Nutella, along with yogurt smoothies and a variety of drinks including lattes, teas, and sparkling ades.

You can visit Wicked Snow at 11301 Lakeline Blvd., Ste. 113A, Austin, and follow them on Instagram at @wickedsnowatx.

In terms of future development, the Russian School of Mathematics is set to hold its grand opening after relocating this month.

The after-school program is designed to help students enhance their math skills while preparing for testing.

The new location at 9500 Parmer Lane, Austin, will begin operations on September 14, and more information can be found at www.mathschool.com.

Looking ahead, there’s exciting news about the Peace Family Housing initiative.

Peace Lutheran Church is teaming up with Foundation for the Homeless and HomeAid Austin to create transitional housing for families in need.

Construction is expected to begin on September 1 and will span into April 2026, with the facility covering 3,368 square feet and providing four sleeping units.

The goal is to offer shelter to approximately 16-36 families each year, offering them a chance at stability.

This new project will be located at 10605 N. FM 620, Austin, and updates can be found at www.peaceaustin.org/housing.

On the relocations front, Si Baby-Q, an Asian food truck known for its barbecue dishes with an Asian twist, moved to the Pink Flamingo Food Court in July.

Their menu includes unique items like brisket and ribs seasoned with Indonesian pepper and spice rub, alongside sides like smoked kimchi and banana pudding.

Also, the Wagyu yume food truck is set to relocate from The Domain to the same food court on September 1.

This food truck specializes in wagyu beef, serving dishes like A5 wagyu rice bowls and gyudon, as well as Korean short ribs and other Japanese snacks.

Nvidia, a leading tech company, has announced its decision to relocate its Austin offices to 1Uptown near The Domain by 2026.

Finally, it’s noted that Best Pawn, located at The Meadows shopping center, closed its doors permanently this August.
