Wolfson Family Supports GableStage with Major Philanthropic Gift

GableStage, one of Miami’s prominent regional theater companies, has announced a significant gift from Jessie Fox Wolfson, representing the Wolfson Family’s long-standing dedication to the cultural fabric of Miami.

Jessie Wolfson expressed pride in the family’s support for GableStage, emphasizing the importance of this cultural institution in the community.

In recognition of the Wolfson Family’s generosity, the exterior of GableStage at the Biltmore Hotel will feature naming signage to honor The Wolfson Family Theatre.

Additionally, a butterfly garden installation will be created to reflect Jessie Wolfson’s admiration for butterflies, symbolizing freedom, evolution, and artistic expression.

An enthusiastic Jessie Wolfson shared her excitement about honoring her family’s legacy and the creation of a beautiful butterfly garden.

During an open house event at GableStage in October 2024, attendees were given a behind-the-scenes look at the theater’s operations.

Bari Newport, the producing artistic director, highlighted the experience, stating that guests could see every aspect of play production, from storage in the basement to the modest backstage area.

Wolfson was inspired by her experience and expressed her desire to help the theater, stating, “I want to make your life easier.”

Given the challenges presented by the current arts funding landscape, the Wolfson Family’s contribution provides GableStage with a solid foundation to tackle both immediate challenges and future opportunities.

Newport commended the Wolfson Family’s commitment to arts and culture, correlating their support with GableStage’s mission.

The contribution also marks the initiation of a Comprehensive Campaign geared toward enhancing both artistic initiatives and infrastructural needs as GableStage prepares for its anticipated move to the Historic Coconut Grove Playhouse.

This campaign will focus on galvanizing community support and building a sustainable future for GableStage in its new location.

Upon the completion of the naming signage and butterfly garden, a special celebration will be held for donors, supporters, and media to honor Jessie Wolfson and her family’s generosity.

Roz Stuzin, chair of the GableStage Board of Trustees, reiterated gratitude for Jessie’s generous spirit and her deep-rooted commitment to the arts, emphasizing the pivotal role of theater in enriching society.

Stuzin praised the Wolfson Family’s remarkable contribution, which is set to influence GableStage’s trajectory for many years to come.

Founded in 1979 as the Florida Shakespeare Theatre, GableStage is among South Florida’s most esteemed theater companies and has garnered numerous awards.

The company aims to deliver theatrical works that address pressing contemporary issues, catering to South Florida audiences with artistic excellence.

As the 2025-26 Season approaches, GableStage is set to celebrate its 27th season, reinforcing its status as a cultural pillar in the region.
